YT 500 Club Member | In honor or inappropriate? I'm getting a new little girl on the fifteenth. I've gone to see her every week since she was 3 weeks old. The breeder says she has a tradition of putting a collar with the name we choose on it on them for when we first pick them up. So I've been trying to decide on a name. I am torn between Madalyn ( or Maddy for short) or naming her Marley after my baby girl that I lost a year ago. I know she will be her own little personality and I don't expect for her to act or turn out anything like Marley was, so don't think I'm trying to bring her back by calling her that. I just guess I think of it more like an in her honor kind of thing if I did. Do you think that that would be ok or inappropriate to name her Marley? Or should I just go with Madalyn ? I'm a libra and sometimes we need help making decisions once we've pondered on a choice for too long without conclusion. |

| Awwww....I totally understand why you might think of naming your new little girl Marley after the sweet love you lost. I don't think it would be inappropriate in any way. What's appropriate is what makes you feel comfortable. Personally I think I probably wouldn't do it. I might go with Marley as a second name though, and name your new lil girl something like Madalyn Marley. Your new little one will have her own personality and traits, and while she might remind you a lot of your precious Marley, she will make her own place in your life and your heart for who she is. Having her very own name will help you to allow her to do that. You will always remember your sweet Marley, but having little Maddie in your life is a step forward and a step towards healing your heart. Diana |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think you can't go wrong either way -- do what feels best in your heart. It wouldn't be inappropriate to name her after Marley.

| I think it's fine either way. However, I personally would want a different name just because I would want Marley to be the one and only. I'm Cancer and we are weird like that. Lol. But I think if you are doing it to honor Marley that is just fine if that's what you want.

YT 1000 Club Member | I think I would give her a new name. Because she will have her own personality. I don't ever reuse a dog name. Will any friends/family be confused if you have another Yorkie with the same name as a previous one? It is entirely your choice, but even vet records (if you use the same vet) could get confused with a dog with the same name as a previous one. Just a thought. You will need to name her what you feel is the best name for her though. Congrats on your new baby!

| I agree with the above members, not inappropriate. For me I wouldn't name a new puppy the same name of one I once had. I love all the names of my passed babies, each pup was unique in her own way. Go with your heart.

YT 500 Club Member | I lost my little Titan 1 year & 2 months when I had my new baby. Lots of people suggested "Titan". I just couldn't do it. He was so very special. After the fact we named him "Ruger, the pistol". So glad I did because he is "nothing" like my baby Titan, except being a pure bread Yorkie. Happy baby Yorkie to you. You have time to think on it 🐾 |

| I understand !! You will grow to love this little one for who she is.... so I would give her a different name. You could have her middle name Marley- that would honor Marley but have a different first name? Yes... I have given my pups first and middle names

| I see where you're coming from! Definitely go with Madalyn and if you're into full names Marley is a good middle name I had a dog named Munchkin when I was 10ish and my grandma let him go sadly but a few years later I got a puppy and named him Munchie but said his real name was Munchkin in honor of my old dog

| I have never reused a name. I think it might put a little to much pressure on the pup to be the there name sake.

| New puppy, new name, new adventures, new love---just getting another little baby is, indeed, testament to the love and joy Marley & you shared. I think Madelyn is a really cute name, for sure! |

YT 500 Club Member | Yeah, you're probably right... If I named her Marley it would probably have adverse effect on my boyfriend. He doesn't deal with death as well as I do and it would probably make him sad. So Madalyn it shall be. It was a toss up between Madalyn and Cambrie when I was picking out a new name. But Madalyn has a cuter short name since we always get lazy with the names. |

| Many years ago I had a kitty I named Little Bit, and lost him. Later, I had a second kitty...who was so much like the previous one...and who 'could' have been his father, since these were feral kitties...that I named him Little Bit II ("the 2nd"...LOL). I still have my second Little Bit...he just turned 17 a couple weeks ago. I never regretted 'honoring' Little Bit ('the 1st'), even though I usually choose an individual name for all my furry babies. People name their children after 'loved and lost' people all the time, so if you choose to 'honor' your previous baby similarly, but want to use a 'distinguishing' name, perhaps a slight variant of the 'honoring' name would be an option.

| My pups went from Duke to Duchess once with no ill affects that I recall... long time ago. They were both very special. |
