| Is Pantene Shampoo & Conditioner Harmful To Use For My Yorkie ? I ran out of dog shampoo so I used a little Pantene Conditioner to give Oscar his bath and it made his hair so silky and super shiny .. It did not bother him as far as causing itching either but is it safe to use ? I have no problem buying and using dog shampoo but he has such sensitive skin it is hard to find something that does not bother him .. |

| I remember reading about this and the difference is the pH level. Human shampoos are more acidic. Another good reason to use the doggie shampoo is that they're designed to clean well for specific coat types and keep them clean for longer period of times. Human shampoos are geared more towards daily use. |

| In in emergency I doubt it's a big deal but on a normal bases it really shouldn't be done because of the PH level.

| I use Pantene conditioner Ice Shine as someone had recommended it on YT. I haven't had any adverse reaction such as itching.

| Hi Wanda! Oscar would look stunning whatever you used... I occasionally use Pantene shampoo and/or conditioner on Harry-boy and he always looks stunning afterwards, gleaming away in the sunshine... I think the key is to rinse + rinse + rinse then rinse again - no adverse reactions over here, either!

| Thank you all .. So I gather the general consensus is OK on occasion but not for regular use . I think I will stick to dog shampoo .. I will try to find a hypoallergenic one .. |

| I have used it before, especially love the Ice Conditioner, makes them so very soft and silky. I have never had a problem with it. Just make sure you rinse really well.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I started using the Ice Conditioner when I was showing Razzman and then only on show days. It is just as good as Nutrient Masque which is very pricey - how-ever beyond the Ph level is it silicon in the product which is not a good idea for regular use.

| I personally wouldn't use it on Sunni. It hasn't been necessary really. I use the Isle of Dogs products and her hair is super silky and shiny and doesn't get greasy in between baths. I did learn the hard way when I first got her about baby shampoo, lol. I thought it would be super gentle, but didn't realize that its basically just soap and extra drying on her skin. |

| I know people who use Pantene and other human hair products on their dogs consistently (including exhibitors who use Redken) and they have no problems. Their coats are beautiful. Some of the downsides were listed above: pH difference, ingredients including silicones and sulfates (which many dog products have). I've used my Pantene shampoo and conditioner on Max and Teddy in a pinch. I didn't care for the results. Their coats were not as silky soft.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This really isn't about their coats as much as their skin. Quote:
