| Ack!!! Mama gave birth today! Wants people food! Hello, My girl had a litter today, and I KNOW she is hungry for MY food! She is crazy for it, but when I redirect her to her bowl she just stares at me, like, "really?" She ate three placentas today, so I already know the s*** storm is coming. Should I give in and give her a yogurt or something? She just tried to scam some chicken bones out of the garbage. (It has been moved out to the bin!) she has had her fair share of broth today, after delivery. What do you guys think? PS: we did allow her about 1/8 cup of skinless chicken at supper. | Rather then give her prepared "people" food, just give her some boiled chicken and rice or boiled hamburger meat, she needs to keep up her calories more then anything and chicken or beef with rice and maybe veggies will not hurt her. |

| poor baby she thinks she is starving. She did a lot of hard work. I would give her some yogurt if she likes it. Chicken is not going to hurt her. I'm not a vet nor have I delivered any litters. Common sense and if you are super concerned do a search on the internet about what a new mommy needs in nutrition. Jmho. |

| She needs to be eating for the babies!!!! She sounds like she is starving to death!!! Give her boiled chicken and rice and yogurt, cottage cheese, that whelping pudding that is on this site in the breeder's section....she needs to be eating puppy food also.....canned puppy food or puppy kibble....Feed her as much as she wants to eat.....1/8 cup of anything is not near enough to supply her and the babies with the nutrition she needs...... |

| Thanks to all who answered! Hello! Your suggestions matched my instincts. I gave her a full fat Greek yoghurt (plain, single serve), and some more plain chicken. I will do the plain rice and beef boil in the morning. (It's been a very long day - going on 24 hours now that I've been up!) But puppies are all latched and mom is sleeping soundly. Time for me to get a nap in before I hear their cute little squeaks again. I really appreciate the advice. |

| Ps: just to be clear!!! Just too be clear, she didn't only have the 1/8 cup of chicken today! I'm just worried about giving her too many rich foods! |

| All of the thing everyone have contributed are relatively "bland" foods that vets recommend and should not be too rich for mama. She needs to up her fat intake a bit as well as have plenty of water while she is nursing. If you don't she will be a mess by the time they are ready to be weaned. When I was younger and my mom bred Rotties, I remember her giving cottage cheese, eggs and goats milk to the moms. They loved it and the pups were always strong, healthy with fantastic coats. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Plain scrambled egg is also very good for nursing moms - and watch her calcium levels - how many pups did she have?

| You guys are great! Hello! Well a little late getting back to everyone but of course it's been a long day! I did give her scrambled eggs for breakfast this morning. Goats milk is a brilliant idea and I hadn't thought of it. She loves the yogurt so I think cottage cheese will go over well. I bought some today. She loves the beef and rice! And so far, she has had well-formed stools considering i couldn't get as many placentas away from her as I wanted too. My girl had three boys and one girl. |

| Thank you Jade Thank you Jade. I am savouring every second, because I never intended to breed. Momma was sent to my mom's house for a month during her heat. Alas, those two little stinkers tied before we realized. I made the mistake of putting off the spay and neuter. Beware to all! You think you have it under control. You do not! If they want to get together, they will!!! And they will go to every length! Dad is scheduled for neutering next Tuesday. |

YT 1000 Club Member | I have brother and sister puppies and I am scheduling to have them fixed right as soon as they turn 6 months to avoid having puppies here. My other 2 male dogs are fixed, so no problem there. I hope I have it under control because I don't want a sibling litter of puppies. I actually had someone ask me if I got these puppies to start breeding. I was just shocked! I was like "They are brother and sister! No, I don't want to breed them." Then they asked if I was going to breed them with my other (9 years old) Yorkie. No, for one he was fixed as a puppy, and 2, no, they are pets. Some people just don't get it.
