| Need Advice- separating fur babies for vacation? I will be going to the beach next week. I was planning to take both dogs, but recently found out I'm taking my 4 yr old grandson. Don't think I can handle both dogs and grandson....Weakling, I know... Anyway, my male is very dependent on me, always in my lap, no trouble at all. My female is more difficult to deal with and is not as dependent on me, she does follow me around, but also likes her alone time. Would it be terrible on her if I took him and left her with my husband at home? They have never been separated before. I usually take them both or leave them both at home. I don't want her to be miserable with me and my other dog gone. Anyone have experience with this? I need advice please! Thanks!

| Is there no one else that is going with you? Why do you have to take your grandson?

| I usually keep him 2 days a week while his mom goes to school. She asked if he could go and being the kind of grandmother that has "what can I do for you" stamped on her forehead I said sure. My mom is going also but she is 86 and not a ball of fire! Cathy

| I guess it depends on the pup. I wouldn't hesitate to leave any of mine with my husband because he spoils them as much or more than I do. Too bad your hubs can't go with you; then, the dilemma would be solved.

| Only one way to find out how she'll react to being alone with your husband is to do a trial run. Leave her at home alone for a few hours with toys and food/water and see how she behaves. If you're only going for the weekend I don't see a big issue with this. 1 of my dog has separation anxiety and I left him alone for 2 days with a family member and besides barking for 5 minutes after I left he did just fine. Of course, when I came back he was super excited and happy to see me. |

| I'm sure your dog will have some anxiety. That said, it really is okay I think. Your dogs will both be safe. They might not know they are okay, but you do. That said, I hope you have a wonderful time with your grandson. It's a special relationship (of course, my 33 year old daughter has yet to have one!). My memories with my grandmother are some of the most special in my life. Also, my two cents would be to leave both dogs with DH. I think then both would be at home, comfortable, and have each other. The stress of being separated from each other might be worse than separation from you. |

| Why dont you try a few practice runs before you go away, taking a different one out on errands or something leaving the other home. I do that often with my dogs, so they can get used to the comings and goings of our family life. Your husband is her family, so I bet she will kind of enjoy the one on one time she gets with him Enjoy your grandson!! |

| I don't see why that would be a problem at all.... Just bring your one more easy going pup and enjoy yourself! Your girl will be at home with a person/house she lives with, I think she will be fine. I personally don't think it's a bad thing for dogs to learn to be separate from each other sometimes. Also, Lola is my moms pup and she has basically turned all into mine. In fact the 2 dogs are laying with each other right now. I hate leaving her but I have to to sometimes and bring Jackson with me, and she is fine and gets over it. She's just that much happier to see him when we get back.

| Thanks to all for your input! I think I've decided to leave them both at home with my husband. I think they will be happier together in a place they are familiar with. He'll spoil them while I'm gone! Cathy

| Ain't it funny how these critters take over our very lives without lifting a paw or saying a word?? LOL We have changed our vacation plans since Bella has arrived. |

| IMP I think your little girl will he happy to stay at home with her daddy, that is better then to leave with a friend, she will be in her own home. You may come to find that your little boy may miss her lol. Go for it, take the boy and your grandchild, leave little girl home with daddy and enjoy your beach time with your grandchild and baby boy. Have a GREAT time.

YT 1000 Club Member | I will be doing the same thing in July. My puppies are siblings and always together. I have been taking one puppy with me sometimes just so they can adjust a little. I will take turns with which one I take places. We are going on vacation and Teek (older Yorkie) will be going with us and probably Rowan will go as well. The girl puppy is my daughter's puppy and she will be house sitting at my mom's and is taking her puppy with her. I am also going on a weekend trip in July and going camping while I am gone and I plan to take Teek and Rowan with me camping for a few nights. It will just be me and the dogs. My daughter will have her puppy. If I feel that Rowan is not ready to go camping then I guess I might leave him with her, but the plan is for me to take him with me. Teek is up for anything as long as he is with me. We are hoping to have our pop up camper ready to go and can go out in that for a week or so this summer and we will take some of the pups with us. If my daughter goes with us then her puppy will go, but she doesn't like camping that much so she might decide to stay at home. I hope the puppies will be okay being separated for trips like that. I think you will have fun and the doggies will be okay.
