Default Yorkie/Chi up too early

My little Yorkie/Chi will be 2 in October and every morning like clockwork he awakens me at 5:22am....It is getting annoying..he will jump on me and lick my face and sit at the edge of the bed and grunt until I get up...So I get up but by 6:30 him and his brother will be flat out sleeping and I am left sitting here drinking coffee...

Why is he doing this? We have tried keeping them up later and making him go lay down and nothing works...It is worse than having a newborn baby in the house...I find my self napping in the afternoon just to catch up...From the time he was 9 weeks old he does this but it used to be worse...he would wake up at 3am and want to play...My other Yorkie/Chi who is 2-1/2 just wants to sleep...

majorly sleep deprived..Getting to old for this...LOL

Any suggestions?

This is a tough one and I wish I had ideas for you ...but I'm sure someone will come along with something brilliant...

Oh, eeeek!!! Yucky! Especially when you're left coffee-ing away, and they're sleeping... Sooooo frustrating!

I hate to ask this - but have you tried sleeping them in another room, rather than yours? They have one another...I know we all love our bubs to bits, but at least he wouldn't be lonely....

Yorkie mummies need their sleep, too....

Does he wake up early to potty or to eat? My boys want to potty and eat between 5 and 6 am. Then they want me to go back to bed with them. I feel your pain. They have a piddle pad, but I have to take care of "big business" right away.

I think some dogs are just early risers. Sorry I don't have any suggestions.

I would try this first. Though if either of them are barkers, they will still find a way to wake you up.

I had to teach mine that the only thing I get up for is the alarm clock.

I had to begin by setting the alarm clock maybe 5 minutes later than they would wake me up (that was 5:35 in this house) if they bothered me during those 5 minutes before the alarm rang, I totally ignored them. Didn't open my eyes or talk to them..... Just pretended to sleep. Did this each day without fail.

I gradually moved the alarm back by 10 minutes every few days and then eventually began moving it in larger increments on the weekends for when I wanted to sleep a bit longer.

They learned fairly quickly that I only got up for the alarm. Now I can get up and go potty and go back to bed because they know it's not time to get up yet. The alarm clock has become their "breakfast bell"

Piper often wakes me up (with soft little ga-ruffs) hours before it's time, but I let her outside, give her treat when she comes in and we immediately head back to bed. At that point, she's usually down for the count!

Mine RUN the entire house and all humans here!!! (Actually, I put my foot down and EVERYONE gets crated and down for a nap from 12 noon to 4pm, and then down for bedtime at 9 - 10pm....) The only great thing I can say for you is that research has shown that people that get a nap in during the afternoon, live longer!!!!! So.....actually....your babies are doing you a favor, trying to keep mommie around for many, many years!! (I can RATIONALIZE with the very best of them!!!)

I sure hope my little ones learn to sleep in!

I begrudgingly get up at 7am to take the kids to school during the week. Teek stays in bed and I have to come and wake him up between 9 and 9:30.

The puppies arrive and I have been up by 7am every day, mostly between 5:15 and 6:30. Summer will be here in a few short weeks (school out) and they better learn to sleep until closer to 8am at least for the summer. I would sleep until 9:30 just like Teek if it were entirely up to me.

I do have to admit in a very limited way that I have enjoyed a few quiet mornings with them, but I am severely lacking sleep this week and I will need to get more in the future.

I hope they will slowly learn to sleep in longer though. We shall see though. They are such good puppies too!

That's brilliant! Mine know to sleep in until at least 8am but Toto knows if he really wants me to get up he will jump off the bed. He makes a big deal out of it in the morning. Vs when he does it at night, he's all stealth. I know bc there are many pee marks in the room. So when he jumps down in the AM I have to get up in fear of him peeing in the room. But usually they get up with the sun. Earlier in the spring/summer and later in the fall/winter.

Cali likes to get up early and eat while I like to sleep in. We have worked this out by using an automatic feeder (I think it is for cats actually). When we go to bed at night I set it up and the feeder door flips open at what ever time I set it for -- Cali goes a head and eats then gets back in bed to sleep for another hour until I get up. She also knows I don't move until the alarm rings.

Usually I don't even hear the door flip open and that she goes to eat until she gets back in bed and snuggled up close to me. Geeze, I think I have the perfect dog

I feel your pain. Anna for some reason has to get us up every morning at 4:30. She will get out of bed during the night, pee on her pad and sleep on the couch. But for some reason at 4:30, half hour before we have to be up, she'll waddle her cute fanny in the bedroom and talk to us until we get her. I wish I could hire a dog psychic to talk to her and explain that this makes humans cranky.

I wish I knew why they do this too. My Yorkie starts to try waking me up at 3:30 A.M. My previous Yorkie was the same very early risers. I also give her Benadryl for her allergies around 11:30 P.M, Her allergies are so bad right now. I can't leave her in her bed in the kitchen as she loves to sleep cuddled up next to my chest at night and she will start crying in the Kitchen.

So I end up getting up around 4:30 -5:00 A.M. put her food in her bowl and go back to bed. She eats, goes potty on her pad and goes back to sleep with me.

What we do for our precious little Angels!

I know you will hate me now: my little Pepper sleeps until I wake up. This could be 5:30am or 11:30am! He is absolutely perfect!!
I really love sleeping in, and was rather worried when Pepper came along.

I love the idea with the alarm clock.
Good luck!
