| My 8 week old male Yorkie We bought our first male 8 week year old Yorkie this Sat the lady we bought him from seemed very informative on any questions we had and gave us some Natural Balance sweet potato and bison food and said this is what she was feeding him and said to soak the food in water so it will be very soft for him too eat. We are going on day 3 and he maybe takes 1 bite or 2 and won't eat any more. He drinking water regularly and is very energetic. But we are concerned about his eating habits any help would be greatly appreciated. Very concerned new Yorkie owner. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sometimes, appetites decrease a bit during transition times...but 3 days is a bit concerning. So at the breeders, the pup was eating this exact food very well then? Keep in mind that what 8 wk old dogs eat is a very, very small portion...often surprisingly small. Are you weighing him and has he lost weight? One thing you also might try is sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on the kibble...it's very pungent and can help them get interested. Dogs eat first w/ their noses.

| I had to do this because Cooper wasn't eating when I first got him, and it worked so great!!! He Loves his Parmesan cheese on his food!!! I thought it was a little weird to try when I first read about doing this. But hey if it works then it works !!!

| It could be just the transition. I adopted a 2 year old yorkie and she went through the same thing. She didn't eat anything. I sprinkle some cheese and that helped but really got her eating was boiled chicken. I would boil some chicken and mix it in her food. Now I have created a monster because now it seems she will only eat if boiled chicken is mixed in with her food. I have been decreasing it but so far that hasn't worked. She won't eat if her portion of boiled chicken is not to her liking.....little stinker. I'm not sure an 8 week old can eat boiled chicken though. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Ann is right, there is always that transition period but three days is a bit too long with no food. You could always try soaking the food in 3 to 1 / water and carnation evaporated can milk. This is what I do for my Yorkie pups.
