New Puppy! Hello! About six months ago we got a Yorkie male puppy and named him Benji. He was 8 weeks old and we loved him dearly. He was our little baby and the best dog ever. He was so funny and playful. Well we had a tragic accident about two weeks ago. My husband didnt see him and run over him! We were devasted!! Well two days ago I went a got another male yorkie. He is 9 weeks old. On the ride home he was very scared and shaky and whined almost the whole way home. That evening he wouldnt eat and acted terrified (benji never acted this way). He would jump at any noise and whined unless I held him. So that next morning he was still shaky and scared acting. The food that the lady said she was feeding him, he wasnt eating so i tried the wet pedigree food in the pouches which is what we fed benji. He gobbled it up and then took a nap. After he woke he was like a new pup, playing and not so skiddish. That evening after yet another nap he played and was running around. Well he still isnt just right. He is very slow and scared acting still, just was playful and normal acting them two times previously. He is still scared of noises but not quite as bad. If you put him down he really doesnt roam around and when he does he has his tail tucked. He is not playful at all most times. I try and play with him but he isnt interested. Could he be sick? Does this sound normal? I just have never had a puppy that wasnt playful at all!! Please help

I think he's still a brand new little baby, and is probably just scared of his new surroundings and being away from his mom and littermates. Just try to remember that he's practically an infant, and be patient. He may be overwhelmed and not understand what you want him to do. I got my puppy at about the same age and for the first week, she was very much like your new puppy. She needed lots of naps and I would let her sleep, feed her, take her to the wee wee pad every hour for first week. I did feed her pretty often, little bits of food just to make sure she kept her sugar levels up....by the second week here, she owned the joint!! lol. Really, you would never know this little girl was ever timid and afraid of anything

I really hope so and that nothing is wrong. He does get a little hyper in the evenings so I always play with him. I am just trying to be easy and work with him to let him know he is safe. Hopefully he will come around in a few days

I also worry bc he doesn't eat good and not much at all. What can I do? Also I give him nutri gel. Since he isn't eating how many times do I need to give him this. I usually just squeeze a little on the tip of my finger once a day.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | First, I'm so very sorry for your loss of your other pup - how tragic...I'm sure that was so heartbreaking . As for Benji, I would take him into the vet to get checked out. But he could just be scared and very, very stressed. If he doesn't come out of his shell soon though, that would be rather unusual and concerning.

We give Nutrical 2-3 times a day, a little blob on the finger. We do it in between her normal 2 mealtimes to keep her blood sugar level.

He doesn't seem to want to eat most of the time. Yesterday I soaked some good in milk and he loved it. Today I tried that an he doesn't want it al at. It is 11:00 and he hasn't are anything. Every time I try to feed him he isn't interested. He is playing a little more now but still scared. Sometimes he seems okay and the. You can just turn the sink faucet on and he is scared and runs off. And he looks so sad in the face. I have never had a puppy act like this and it is just worrying me.

Sorry about all the typos in my previous reply...I finally got him to eat a little ham(sandwich meat) he doesn't seem to be interested in the soft food, hard food soaked in milk or broth. Idk what to do about him not wanting to eat. I just try and feed him pretty often and he usually will eat a little of the ham and I am still giving him the nutri cal. He seems to act better after he eats which is normal. The only thing other than the eating that we are still battling is the scared thing. He seems pretty comfortable in the living room but if you make any kind of noise like closing the recliner, etc. he is terrified. You can just laugh loud or clap or anything. What can I do to maybe help the matter. You would figure he would be used to noise in the house by now. We dont have kids but as far as closing cabinets, washing dishes, etc but he isnt getting any better with that. Please help! Thanks

I would seriously consider going to the vet or at least calling one for an opinion re: the behavior you have witnessed etc. It would be very hard for any of us (and irresponsible) to make any assumptions about why your puppy isn't eating etc. On one hand, the puppy may just be nervous due to age. On the other hand, something may be wrong since dogs do not show pain, distress etc in the same way as humans. It would be best for all concerned to get a professional opinion.

That is probably what I am going to do. It's strange because one day he ate wet food but wouldnt touch it the next day. Then he ate the hard food soaked in milk like crazy but the next day wouldnt touch it. He ate the ham yesterday but doesnt seem to interested today.

| Cooper wouldn't eat for the first couple of days that he was with me either!!! So I read about keeping Karo syrup and nutrical around, so the Karo syrup is what I go to fastest!! I would give him a lil bit to keep his b lood sugar up! Plus I read you could sprinkle parmesan cheese on their kibble and that worked great for Cooper he loves it!

My puppy didn't eat for 3 days but was drinking water. I called my vet and she said as long as she was drinking water she would eventually eat. She did! On the fourth day she gobbled up her food. She just needed to adjust. She also was scared for the first 5 days. Now you'd never know it and I've had her 11 days.

Well we got Bentley last Wednesday so we have had him for 5 days. He plays fine now bc at first he didnt want to do anything. He will usually eat good once a day other than that everytime i try and feed him he doesnt eat. I give him the nurti cal everyday since he isnt eating right. He does drink water, not like i think he should but he is drinking some and goes to the bathroom normally. But being scared hasnt really improved much. He is attached to me really good as far as feeling safe. He seems pretty comfortable in the house until you make any noise, like i said earlier even turning the faucet on and he runs back to his bed with his tail tucked. The being scared is the main thing that i worry about him growing out of. I figured by now he would be used to everything. He stays inside, sleeps in the bed and I even take him to work with me trying to get him used to sound. I figured he would be scared in the house left alone. But he hasnt had much improvement on the being scared part in the 5 days we have had him.

On the parmesan cheese thing, do you use the shredded cheese or the shaking kind like you put on spaghetti?
