| Gate for deck I've been looking into a new gate to place between the posts to the deck steps. Right now I have a cheap wooden baby gate which works fine for when I let the dogs out on the deck during the day, but I really want one that swings open. Now that the weather is getting nicer, my son and I go outside a lot more and having to take the gate off and on is a pain and if the dogs are on the deck, having to step over it is difficult and then I have to lift my son over it or take it down risking the dogs running out. I have found lots of gates that attach on one side and swing open or have a door that opens in the gate that way it doesn't have to be taken down. The only problem is, all of them say they are for indoor use only. Does anyone have a gate that works outside that can swing open? |

| Can you show us a picture of the deck you're wanting the door to be placed? You can probably make one yourself. Or if you're looking to just buy.. something like this perhaps? Cardinal Gates Stairway Special Outdoor Gate in Brown at PETCO But.. if you're handy with tools and what not, I'd say make it! |

How wide is the walkway the gate will be used in?

You don't have any issues with rusting? I have looked at a lot of metal gates similar to this, but I worry about rust over time.

I saw this gate in my research, but I didn't think it was a swing open gate, but I will have to look into it again. Thanks

| You know... if you don't mind the ghetto look, I think you can put some hinges on the baby gate you have now and a hook latch to hold in place to make it "swing" instead of stationary. Did that make sense?.... |

| The Munchkin gate only goes to 35" wide. There are these: Pet Gates: Stairway Special Outdoor Wall Mounting Gate at Drs. Foster and Smith. Amazon

Just talked to the hubby and he thinks he can turn it into a swing gate or somehow make his own. That gate probably isn't really designed to be outside, but it's so cheap that if I had to replace it every year or 2 it wouldn't be too bad. I'll post pictures after all is said and done (may be a few weeks).

YT 1000 Club Member | I just bought a gate for our front porch. It is metal. It will be used on a covered porch so it will see some weather, but not a lot of direct rain on it. My opening is huge so I had to get an extra wide gate for it. You can find lots of gates that swing open, look for a top of stairs gate and it should swing open. I would look on Amazon and see if you can find something that will work well for your opening. I got mine off Amazon and I can't wait until we get it installed. We have to modify our opening as I knew when I ordered it that it was actually 6 inches too short for the opening, but we had plans to make it work. Our opening is 78 inches so it is just huge. You should be able to find a really nice looking gate fairly cheap that can go there. I will love having my gate so I can have the dogs out on the porch with me during the day and not worry about them running in the street.

| I had a super large deck and porch in my last house. I did have the metal (coated white) gates up on all the openings. We used the kind that was a gate within a gate. They worked perfectly and were easy for us humans to get in and out. I've been there with the stepping over the gates, just to save time, lol. Not fun. I'm in a condo now and had an actual matching deck gate installed. its super sturdy, and really not that expensive to have done. If you have someone handy, its worth getting. Plus it can also be a child safety gate, depending on the type of latch you use. |
