| Let's talk about grass.... Okay, so eating grass. Why? Why do they eat grass? Can they eat too much grass? I swear I read about someone's yorkie having to have surgery due to stomach obstruction from eating too much grass- did I make that up?! Is that possible!? Those are pretty tiny stomachs and watching how voraciously my girl is after grass every single time we go out it sure seems like obstruction is a possibility! She seriously looks like a very hungry cow. Please share your thoughts, knowledge and experience in this area.

| I am lucky that Lola does not do that, I have always heard that eating grass means they have an upset stomach and know that this will make them purge which from past experience does seem to happen if much grass is ingested, but not sure I believe old wives tales so I will be curious to see what others have to say

| Yep, it's so weird. So I can tell the difference between Jackson's "I have to puke" eating grass and his "I'm just bored/hyper eating like a cow" eating grass. When his stomach is upset, he immediately will bark loudly to go outside and just begins finding any piece of grass he can, and eating obsessively until he pukes. This doesn't happen often but when it does, it's very obvious to tell his belly is hurting. But sometimes during the summer, he will be running around, playing, etc, and look for a long piece of fresh grass to munch on.... that's just him chowing down, honestly.... and it never makes him throw up when he's just eating 'recreationally"

| I think my dogs just like the taste, they never eat enough to puke (we usually try to keep them from eating outside grass for fear of ingesting some bug eggs or something) and love leafy greens. We find they actually are less likely to eat grass when we feed them cabbages, lettuce, etc.

| Thank you ladies for your feedback- I, like Donna had always believed that dogs ate grass to throw up, but Lilah has never been a big puker (don't get me wrong, we have had our moments, lol but definitely not a regular puker) and she does not seem to be puking after these 'grass binges'. Admittedly though, we are not huge outside players but we are trying to be more considering the nice weather lately and Lilah is a such a grass monger! Also, I know I am pretty nervous about excess grass consumption (I also worry about parasites and my intestinal grass impaction surgery fantasy gets pretty active lately too). I know that because of those factors I am limiting what her grass take would be if it were a free for all Lilah style. I love the 'feed cabbage and lettuce' idea! Duhr, why wouldn't I think of that? Lilah is my cucumber thief, my carrot consumer and my green bean queen. I adore cabbage and lettuces and I bet she would too. I will increase her veggie intake, she really does love her vegetables, and I will see if her cow like grazing slows down.

| Magnus doesn't care for grass but Zoey does. And she only does this when we go for walks or she's outside playing in the grass running around. And I know it's not upset tummy or anything of the sort. She just takes a chomp WHILE running. Ironically, she doesn't like veggies. Whenever I give her cucumber, carrot, etc.. she spits it out. So why eat grass?! |

| So as far as my intestinal impaction fear...can anyone speak to that? Is that a crazy improbable thing? Did I really read that story or did I make that up? Or did someone elae mAke that up? Lol

| Grass? My dog likes to suck on long pieces of grass, but for fun, not to throw up. Sometimes he pulls the whole plant up plus roots and they make their way out the other end, and I have to help him out LOL!! I wondered if he liked the taste of the reclaimed water? Ugh! What kind of parasites can be ingested on grass? I guess they are from other animal deposits? |

| I think you should be extra cautious if your furbutt's putting rocks in his mouth. If he does swallow them, can be BIG trouble. |

| I know.. rocks are real bad. He just picks up anything.. bugs..leaves, sticks, twigs, fuzz. I'm constantly vacuuming and chasing him down to see what he's chewing on.. nose to the floor all the time..searching for a bit of something.. |

| Vacuum dogs. I hear you with the nose to the floor all the time. You have to move fast to get to the spec of whatever before he does! Never has my kitchen floor been so clean, LOL! Outside however is harder to control and monitor.....when does sniffing become ingesting?? |

| Ever since I got my backyard fenced in and the gate across the driveway, my puppies are outside almost constantly. Practically the whole time they are out there, Duncan is continuously eating grass and leaves off of plants. I redirect him and he will stop for a few minutes and go right back to the grass and leaves. Elliot on the other hand spends her time munching on sticks and twigs. They even try to bring this stuff in the house when it is time to come in! Neither one has thrown up from what they have eaten yet. The only time Duncan has gotten sick was last week when both he and Anya had some type of stomach bug. I knew they were sick then because neither of them ate anything all day and both love to eat their dog food.
