| Did your puppy have soft hair? My baby is about 5 months old now. When we got her she had smooth, soft, shiny hair. Now its dull and kind of rough. Do I have a defective haired princess? I tried putting coconut oil on it last weekend. I tried feeding it to her but she won't eat it. Just wondering if this is a phase and her hair will be soft again? |

YT 1000 Club Member | First, let me say that there is NO SUCH THING as a defective yorkie. As yorkiediva stated it could be her food. If you can't get her to take coconut oil, have you tried fish oil? Also, if she's 5 months her adult coat should be coming in and the two textures (puppy coat vs adult coat) can make her feel odd texturewise. What type of shampoo/conditioner are you using? Do you brush/comb daily? I use CC's Day to Day, Ice on Ice, and a 27 mm pin brush. It keeps my yorkies silky and soft. It also could just be genetics...What type of coats did her parents have? |

| Sunni will be 6 months next week and her coat has changed quite a bit in the past month. I was beginning to think she had a cotton coat, but its not. She had a hair growth spurt this week, and it is silky and straight...theres an actual part down her back The color is also changing mostly around her face and top of her head. Definitely goldenish. I'm not even sure what its called. If I were to compare it to a human hair color, I''d say kinda blonde. She does get coconut oil mixed with yogurt for breakfast everyday..and only use the minimum amount of a puppy shampoo and a good conditioner (Lots of that). Aslo a product I was told about here, from Isle of Dogs, Silky Coating Brush Spray. Its Jasmine & Vanilla..very nice. I think it helps with the shine factor. |

| My puppy's hair was soft when I got him at 5 months and is still the same now at 1 yr old. But his brother's hair, who was also soft at 5 months is slightly more rough now. My breeder has suspected the different hair types though - they're pros at knowing these kind of things though. It's just like the different textures of hair between people. Hehe I maybe my baby takes after my silky long hair..jk Like ColesMommy01 said, there's no such thing as a defective yorkie. I give my baby organic unrefined coconut oil and he LOVES it. It helped to get rid of all his dandruff too. |
