| Babysitting next weekend.... Hi guys! My friends going outta town for a weekend next week and asked if I could babysit his furbaby. He's done a lot of favors for me so naturally I felt that I had to say yes to pay him back somehow. Here's the issue- his dog is not neutered and Mitsy has yet to be spayed. She's 9 months now and I haven't seen any indications she's gone into heat (but to be honest I don't know). How would you guys suggest I deal with this situation to avoid him impregnating her? I was thinking of putting them both in diapers but it seems like such a hassle..he will be coming with his own crate but to keep him in there all day seems cruel.

| Mitsy should be spayed BEFORE her first heat cycle, they usually come into heat around 6 months old. If it was me, I would have my vet spay her ASAP. If it was me not knowing if my female had a heat cycle already and not sure if she'll come into heat I wouldn't let her be around any un-nuertered male period. But that's me. Good luck.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh man...you're going to have to be SO very careful!! If it were me, unfortunately, I'd keep them separated unless I was absolutely *right there* with them. Because believe me, a diaper won't necessarily stop a mating.

| How about putting one in a play pen or gate off a room? Let them have play time together ONLY when you can watch them like a hawk. Like Wylie's Mom said, diapers won't necessarily stop them since they can be torn off. |

| Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I have another male dog (who is neutered) and I was planning on putting the 2 males in a room and Mitsy would stay with me in my room. That should be safe right? I mean there shouldn't be any way "STUFF" can get on the floor and she walks by and gets pregnant? LOLL haha I'm assuming it's just like for us humans. lol

| As long as she is not in heat while he is there that should be OK. If she is, it better be a steel door with a double lock otherwise he will find a way to get in there!

| What kind of breed is the dog that you'd be pet sitting? Is is possible for you to pet sit at their home a few times a day since it is only for a weekend? Just thinking here what would be good.

| Putting two males together not a great idea either, the non neutered male could get aggressive / dominant with your lil guy. With all the stories I have heard / read of these lil rascals climbing out of x-pens and play pens and my own experience of my lil girl climbing a 3 foot high fence, I wouldn't trust that either. If your little girl comes into heat that boy will find a way out and over fenced in area's. I would let them play IF she is NOT in heat but ONLY with me right there, not leave them alone for a minute, watch them like a hawk. When you can't be with them lock the visitor in another room with the door shut, not fair to the little visitor but for the safety of your little girl. Not a good time to repay favor, believe me I do feel for you.
