| Puppy doesn't wag tail I have never seen a puppy that doesn't wag it's tail when happy. But our little girl, Roxie, can be joyously happy- yet the only time that tail ever wags is when she sees another dog. Even then it's only a little- like few wags- and only for a short time when she first sees the other dogs. She LOVES to chase other dogs and play...but once the initial greeting is over..no more wags while playing. Is this common? She gets very happy to meet new people, at feeding time she spins and jumps for joy, and when played with she is boisterous and happy...but no wags. All the other dogs I have had were little hummingbird tails. What gives? Anyone ever seen a dog that doesn't wag it's tail?

| I don't know how old your baby is but when I got Little Miss Elliot, her tail didn't wag much at all either. I remember commenting on it to my partner and comparing it to my other yorkie puppy's tail. Over the next few weeks though, it started wagging more until now, when she is four months old, it seems to wag all the time.

YT Addict | Tink (who is 11) has never been a big "tail wagger". The only time she does wag is when I come home and she is super super happy. Other than that, she doesn't move it much. (I do have to say, her docked tail is SUPER tiny - less than a 1/2 inch I do not think it was docked properly so I don't know if she doesn't wag because it takes a lot of effort?), she will wag it when I talk to her and get her all excited, which she likes to answer me in her "Tink barks" Happy to read about your new baby! |

YT 1000 Club Member | Laveau doesn't wag her tail unless I/my husband/son have just walked through the door, then after a while she calms down. She's about your pup's age. Rasta never has been a tail wagger. |

| Ziva has a short docked tail that she rarely wags. When she was little I thought maybe because of it being done so short. Abby was docked equally short by the same vet and her stub tail wags and spins like crazy. It seems to generate much further into her backbone than Ziva's. I always thought it was good that Ziva was docked because I feel sure she would have had a draggy droopy type tail but too bad about Abbys since her tail would have been a happy part of her! |

| never thought about that...Roxie's tail is longer than my previous fur baby's.I'd say it's about 1.5 inches..and she carries it super erect when she walks. My last baby's tail was only 1 inch and she kept hers down unless she was about to "do business" It was one of the warning signs I looked for when potty training her. Roxie gives no warning from tail raising cuz it is ALWAYS straight up. But glad to know she's not the only one who doesn't seem to be a wagger. But I really DO hope it will start to wag. That wagging always made me smile.

| Dinky did not wag his tail much when he was younger. He's five now, and I see it much more. |

| Daisy has never been much of a tail wagger. She wags a little bit when we get home but I see her wagging like crazy in petsmart when a stranger squats down to her level. Makes me kind of envious.

| My Tibbe is almost 8 years old and the only time he really wags his tail is when he's playbiting ME!!! He dog laughs, squints up his eyes, jumps up and down, goes around in wild circles and bounces around otherwise to show he's happy but I really only see a cute little wagging tail when he is besting me in hand-fighting and gnawing down on me - then his stubby little tail wagging like mad! He's the only dog I've ever had who doesn't wag his tail when happy.

| This is an interesting subject. I do not think all dog breeds share the same tail wagging habits. For show Yorkies, tail wagging in the ring is not typical or desired, but I don't know if it is considered a 'fault.' Max didn't wag much at all when he was younger. He mostly holds his tail high and proud, often even when he sleeps. Teddy is a big tail wagger and has influenced Max a little. Some people say that docking influences wagging/communication, but I know Yorkies with little nubs for tails who are big waggers. Anyway, no need to worry if no tail wagging.

| Zoe is not much of a tail wagger either. To show she's happy, she makes lil yip noises &/or spins around. The times that you can guarantee a crazy amount of very fast tail wagging, is when someone comes to our home that she knows. As soon as she sees my kids in the driveway getting out of their cars, or my mum, ZoE's lil nub goes nuts! She doesnt wag at all when I come home though.

| Jezebel is a big tail wagger, but the only time I ever see Chuy wag is when he is dreaming. Then it's the full hummingbird wag and it cracks me up every time.

| Teddy didn't sit on my lap, wag his tail or respond to high pitched praise when he was a puppy. He still rarely sits on my lap if there are other options (near but not ON my lap), looks at me as if I'm stupid if I praise him with a high voice AND wags his tail only when he hasn't seen me for a couple of hours. Otherwise, unlike most puppies/dogs I have either owned or encountered, he uses his tail only to chase or groom...haha. |

| Piper is very 'stingy' with tail wags...I had her for months before I was bestowed with her little tail-awaggin' for me (one of the best gifts everrrr...). I get little wags when we're almost ready-to-go for a ride in the car and the like...On our walks, if her favorite little buddy, Bambi, is out in his yard, Piper's tail wags like crazy! She's quite selective, my girl is...! |
