| Hair Type-Opinions Hello, I was talking to a friend who has a 7 month old yorkie about her hair type, her yorkie has wire stringy hair. My baby is 3 1/2 months and I'm not sure what kind of hair she has. I'm just curious ☺️🐶 🔸Any opinions? 🔸what do you think her hair would look like when she's older? 🔸And is it to early to tell what her colors would be? |

| Its hard to tell by just the picture. If you want to know the difference in silky vs cottony then you can tell by the flash color in the eyes. If you get green eye shine the coat will most likely be silky if red eye shine it will be cottony. Some mixed yorkies will have wiry coat based on what they are mixed with so that may explain the coat texture of your friends yorkie.

Oh that's interesting, I've never herd that before. When I take some pictures with flash her eyes shine green/blue.

| It is a little too early to say for sure. They get their adult coat when they are around 9 to 10 months of age. That is when they will know for sure about the kind of coat she will have as an adult. |

Oh, based on what you said about the eye color when photos are taken with a flash (blue/green), I would predict that your Yorkie will have silky hair.

| Hard to tell at that age but the flash thing didn't work for my Teddy. He had green/blue eyes with all different camera types up until he was about six months old when it was already obvious (by then) that he would have a cotton coat. I think you just have to wait and find out. However, if the coat is thick and dullish now, it will probably be a cotton coat. If it is silky, thin, greasy and reflective, most likely silky. Also, sometimes white patches are called 'star bursts' and can be retained on the coat until around 1 year when they grow out. This is true for standard color Yorkies (blue/tan) etc. Hope that helps! |

| I think the majority of puppies eyes shine will be blue. You have to wait a bit to test out the green or red/orange theory. Though it did hold true for me. I've had several fostered yorkies under my care and they all fell under the correct category for the eye shine test. It's not 100% though. You will just have to wait and see!

| What is the difference in coats between a silky terrier and a Yorkshire terrier. I know Silky is larger/longer and has larger ears and longer noses. I think their coats turn silvery or slate blue, but I was wondering about their coat texture compaired to the Yorkshire. My daughter bought a yorkie, looked just like a yorkie puppy but as an adult looks exactly like a silky terrier. |

| I've never seen a Silky terrier before in person. I don't think they are that easy to find, and yorkies being more popular bc they are smaller. But frankly I'm surprised how many people ask if Uni is a silky. Not bc of her size, she's within the size standard, but I think bc of her coloring. Perhaps Silky terriers are lighter? I didn't even know that many people knew about Silkies. But true, they are larger, with longer snouts, and I believe their bodies are longer than they are tall.

| awwwww...looks a lot like my kali's hair but nice and thick. her's is so thin . i just got done cutting off her puppy hair because it was more unruly than the coat coming in but I'm having the same issue trying to figure out what coat she has. i just posted about this in grooming. here's how kali's coat looks now that i gave her a hair cut. her hair on her head deff has a shine to it but not as much on her body. she is only 4 mo old. i was surprised how fast she started turning lighter. what do you guys think? first pics are with a flash and other two without. idk if its indicative of anything but her hair is sooooooo soft. I've tried the eye flash thing put they still come back blue which i believe i read is cuz she's still young.

| I forgot to mention Kali also has white hair on her chest and i think it's just part of her hair changes. I don't think she's any part parti.
