| Nervous wreck about neutering So the boys are close to 6 months and being neutered today. I am to pick them up at 4PM. I am a nervous wreck. First of all with two keeping them not active hum not sure even how to do that. I did get the cones in case because they are lickers, so in case. Any after care advice would be greatly appreciated. BTW They are a hefty 11 and 12 pounds now. I think I mentioned it before but they are snorkies. |

| They will be tired this evening, still recovering from the anesthetic. From my personal experience with Tyson, the incision is very small but will need to be kept clean and NO LICKING for a few days. Tyson healed very quickly. Oh, and my vet did not close the incision in the skin with stitches, he used glue! Good luck. I know they will be fine

| My lil guy was neutered in November. He's a hefty 12 pounder too. No stitches. My vet also uses glue. And she does a great job. I've had one spayed and one neutered by her. Neither needed a cone, and neither ever bothered their incisions. Ranger was a little tired for a few hours, but by evening he was up and eating and active. I have a little toy poodle girl that is his best friend and they play constantly. I literally had to keep them apart for a few days, then I gave up and they were back at it. I did block off furniture so he couldn't jump for about a week. But he sure wanted too. LOL Your boys will be fine. The hardest part for you will be keeping them calm for a few days. Good luck with that! Diana |

| Just seeing this - hope he's done by now and you're back home with him. Update when you get the chance.

| Two of them - missed that! Sorry - hope the boys are home sleeping by now and your nerves are back to something like normal.

| My Duncan was neutered a month and a half ago. He was 7 lbs at the time. Duncan was pretty tired all night and just slept off and on in his play pen. He didn't feel like doing anything. He was almost back to his normal self by morning but wanted to nap a couple of times a day for the next two days. I tried, oh so hard, to keep him from playing with Anya and running around but it was a waste of time. He wasn't having any of it. He ran around and played as usual. I made sure he didn't jump around or off of anything. I did listen to the part about him not having a bath for 8 - 10 days. He had disposable stitches and never bothered them. He was fine and healed well. I will be going through with it in another month or so with my female yorkie. We shall see how she will do. I hope the boys did well today. Good luck with their recovery. BTW, what is a snorkie? |

| I had Doodlebug and Bogey neutered on the same day. They were fine and back to their selfs within a couple day. Just no jumping!

| Update Picked them up at like 4:30 they seemed tired. One boy seems to be tolerating it much better. Smaller guy has been crying alot and seems alot more uncomfortable. I gave them both pain meds. Walking gingerly but did pee, one pooped also. Ate a little but the one is so sad I am sorry I did this right now. He seems so sad and uncomfortable. I can't pick him up he yelps. Other is happy and sleeping in his bed. Smaller one can't seem to get comfy. Hubby sleeping on couch downstairs we put blankets on carpet and I am really hoping tomorrow Swoopie seems a little more comfortable. Thanks for the feedback. I handled them primal nuggets they ate well. I am going o check in with vet tomorrow. |

| My Tibbe was pretty outspoken after his neutering and kind of made a keening sound anytime I moved him that night and most of the next day but then he rallied and began to act normally again. I kept him from even going down the short back porch step for 3 days and kept him from jumping for a solid week. Picked him up and put him down from every trip up and down to the couch, chairs or bed for 7 days except for one or two times he beat me to the draw off the couch! Scared me silly but he was fine I guess - seemed just the same afterward as he had before the jumps but I knew he shouldn't do it again. I felt awful for 2 whole days after his surgery, guilt-ridden and horrible for putting him through it all. Now, hindsight, I'm so glad I did. He never became a marker nor ever has lifted his leg in the house and as he has MVD, he never can pass it along to any pups. Hope your boys' feel better quickly. At least the worst is over and now just the healing is left.

| I have never used a cone on a dog or cat after spay or neuter surgery and have only had one patient that decided to chew on stitches after the surgery in over 40 years of getting numerous animals spayed and neutered. We have been able to access some great vets over the years and most of the animals have come home feeling great. So great in fact that it has been difficult sometimes to limit their activities. I hope your guys are feeling much better by now. It's good you were able to spend time with them during their recovery over the weekend. Such a shame that the one was not feeling well. |
