| Sleepless in SC Maggie settles into our bed at night and goes right to sleep with us around 11pm. She sleeps through the night and wakes at about 6:30am on the dot, ready for breakfast and play time. HOWEVER, for the last 2 weeks she has been falling asleep like normal but then she wakes up around 1or 2am wanting to play (licks my face, prances around the bed, paws at my husband and i)...I try to snuggle her back under my arms and sometimes she settles back down, but then she will be back up around 4...and then 5...same routine, I am not sure what to do. She is 4 yrs old and potty trained. She gets three walks a day and also plays...so I don't think I need to run her more. I tried ignoring her but she just goes bonkers, so the last fews nights I try and keep her in bed until attest 4am...then I take her downstairs, feed her, and I sleep on the couch while she plays. This new little routine of hers NOT making me a happy mommy - I am so exhausted. Any suggestions?

| This is why I can't have my furbutts in my bed. That's pretty much what they do. You said you walk her 3 times a day.... How about some hard play just before bedtime? Let her work off some pent up energy if she has any left? Or how about propping up her own bed next to yours. Just not so close to each other where she can jump to your bed? |

| I sure couldnt do that LOL, I would try putting her in a crate when she wakes a 4, that is if she doesnt settle back in, I would not reward her with play and food. It sounds like you are giving her lots of time and play, she just needs to be reminded of what your rules are. She will equal getting up early with a crate sleep. |

| Thank you both for your thoughts. I know...I new giving in and bringing her downstairs to eat and play would reward the unwanted behavior. I couldn't think of anything else though...I have a little crate (she is a mill rescue and not a huge fan of it) but maybe keeping it next to the bed will be threat enough...we shall see. She does calm down if I feed her. Maybe I need to give her half her dinner at 5, and the other half right before bed. Thanks again! She has always slept so well...I was spoiled! LOL

| We started out with Bella in our bed the first night was great the second night she wouldnt settle so I put her in a crate, The next night she was willing to settle down and sleep. The other problem we had off and on was her throwing up bile early in the morning , we gave her a bit of pepto the pink stuff and it settled her tummy and we would feed her some food right before bed. Their little tummy's are so small it just doesn't last the night and that may be whats happening with your wee one so thats a good idea to feed right before bed. Bella is just over two now and wakes me between 8 and 830 Hope all goes well for you we all need our sleep |

| instead of the crate, how about propping up a doggie bed on a chair and having a step stool next to it so she can get up/down whenever she wants. (You wouldn't want her to jump) Also, how about leaving some food/water at the corner of the room so she can eat if she feels hungry? |

| Hi, Maybe it's daylight savings time that is throwing her off? Well, I know how persistent Yorkies are, but I would pop Dinky in the crate with a toy if he was doing this. I'd hope he would get the message about what happens when you wake Mom up in the middle of the night. If he didn't figure it out, I really don't know what I would do! |

| oh, also mybellababy. Dinky will do the bile thing if his tummy is empty. our vet told us to give him about a tablespoon of food every night as a snack. It works well. |

| Interesting, because Maggie recently started with the bile very late at night or early in the morning on occasion. I think I have a few really good suggestions here you guys - I really can't thank you enough. She is such a sweet snuggle buddy when she sleeps...but when she wakes, HELLO CIRCUS DOG! lol. Last night I walked her very late before bed to make sure it wasn't a potty issue (not that I really thought it was). But she still woke up at 2...4...6...tonight I am going to bring up some snacks. Maybe a bite of biscuit will settle her back down. Not ideal but if it works I will just make sure she gets less snacks during the day. I think I will also bring her bed up to our room.
