| New Yorkie Owner 11 days ago, I came home to find a small Yokie in my yard. We live out in the middle of nowhere, and we could not believe that this small dog was lost! We totally thought that he was someone's baby! He bit my husband the first night he was here. We totally understood!!! This little guy was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE here at our home! We started to call him "Cutie Pie." He spent the first night here under a table, where he growled all night, until we went to sleep. I took him around to the immediate neighbors (who are over a mile away) and no one knew who he was.... I took him to the local vet, but again, no one knew who he was. I took Cutie Pie to our vet, who quarantined him for 10 days for the bite, and they contacted all the local pounds to see if anyone was missing a Yorkie.... but no one! Today, I picked up this little guy and paid for the quarantine. Now we are owners of a Yorkie. Today he was happy about coming home with me, and he remembered my dogs. He has sort of calmed down, but this afternoon Cutie Pie slept under the table again.... and when I reached down to pick something I had dropped.... Cutie Pie struck again and bit me!!! I have done some reading today about Yorkies, and I am beginning to see that I will have to show him that I am leader of the pack! But I am not sure what kind of care Cutie Pie is going to need. I plan on having him groomed at my earliest convenience. The vet told me that he is probably full blooded Yorkie and around 2 years old. ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME!!!! |

| I'm not sure if he is from a puppy mill but the below link has some excellent advice. Not mention, I'm sure there will be someone on here that can also give you advice. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...nt-advice.html I rescued a yorkie from a backyard breeder and this link help me tremendously. The best advice I can give is to not force it. Let him come to you in his own time. You have to gain his trust because you don't know what his background is. Assuming he has a clean bill of health, be patient and very loving towards him. Gaining his trust should be your priority right now. Hopefully he will come around. Just remember that it has to be in HIS time and not yours. Whatever you do, do not try to exert any force in trying to establish who is the pack leader. You first have to get him to stop biting you. He is definitely very afraid. Last edited by yavenay; 03-16-2015 at 12:11 PM. |

I will repeat, don't try to show him you are the pack leader, what he needs now is to gain trust in you. Let him come to you on his time, don't force yourself on him. Talk to him softly, put a treat or 2 near you, but not close to you. Yes he is scared. No one knows how he got to your house, he is scared and confused, I suggest not letting your dogs close to him, he may feel threatened, he could try to bit them. Be very patient with him, he'll come around but on his time, when he feels he can trust you and your husband.

| Is he fixed? You need to make sure you get him his shots. I would also work with a trainer because you don't know what he has been through and don't want to make it worse or harm him. Also please don't do alpha dog training.

| He is. Not fixed and he is doing well with the other 2 dogs. I have a bull dog, but she is fixed, but he keeps humping her. I took him to the vet, and he is up to date on the shots they could give him. I have to go back next month for a follow up. I have kept him on a leash while walking him. I am trying to let him know that we are good people. The only time he bites is when he has fallen asleep under my table. He did not like my husband at all the first night, and I am sure that he will react similar tonight. We are just going to give him some time! We are dog loverd! We had a minature dauchound for 10 Yeats before we came home to find that he had broken his back. We were a little bit worried about getting another small breed of dog.... And didn't until this little guy showed up! |

YT 1000 Club Member | It may be that he doesn't like your husband for a while, some dogs are like that. Just be patient with him and love him and hopefully he will come to trust both of you. He may be your dog for a while and then become your husband's dog too in the future. Good luck with him. I hope he fits in well with you in the long run.

| Bless you for making a much needed home for this little fellow Sounds like he really needs it - may never know whT he has been through - will take tons of patience, but you are dog lovers so it will work out in time.
