| I have a ? about nurtical and other things Hi , I need your help again! I have been reading in the threads that you give your baby something called nurtical. I have had the joy of a few furbabies in my life but never a yorkie. A tiny one at that. She was 5 mo old when I got her and that was a month ago. I have been reading this forum like a Bible. And am learning so much. I bought the book yorkies for dummies and feel like you all give such better ideas, suggestions and help. What is nurtical used for ??? Why is it given?? Spicey has been to my vet even tho the person selling her said she was up on shots etc , I wanted my vet to check her out . I have suspicions about the seller that maybe they werent the best breeders. Just a feeling from different ? i had asked them etc. However my vet said Spice was in good health as far as she can tell, Spice will be having her blood work next month before she is spayed. Spice is 2.5 and has been since I got her, she eats like a little horse ! LOL I give her RC dry for yorkie puppies and a tiny bit of canned , I mix it in together, she eats maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup twice a day. The "breeders" were giving her purina for puppies. I have a 14lb terrier , she is 8 yrs old but very playful, they get along wonderful but I worry when they play. Spicey will nip at Sugars legs until Sugar gets tired of it and wont play anymore. Of course at this point I always either pick Spice up and put her in her playpen or hold her as I dont want her getting hurt. After reading different threads i am thinking it is not good to let them play as Sugar could accidentally hurt Spice. What are your thoughts? When Spice nips at me when we are playing I say no and place her in her pen. I know this is long but have so many questions. Sugar is very food aggressive so of course when she is eating or getting a snack I always have Spice either in her pen or in her shoulder pouch. At this point Spice is using diapers , although I believe when the weather cooperates she will be very easy to outside train her as now when Sugar goes out Spice will follow her to the door and wait til she comes back in. So I believe Sugar will be a great help in outside potty training of Spice. I have strayed from my original ?. What do you use nurtical for? LOL |

| Nutrical is used if the puppy is not eating and or having low blood sugar. I would not use diapers there just not meant for dogs and it won't train them. I would look at potty pads. Poo can get smeared all over there butts and pee can cause them a rash. I think as long as you are supervising play that there is no reason for them not to be together. I would make sure with the new puppy you handle her when she is eating so she doesn't become food aggressive.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Spice sounds just adorable!! Yes, Sugar could accidentally hurt her - so I'd just keep an eye on them when playing and I'd probably separate them when away from home. As far as potty training, I'd get rid of the diaper and start asap bc the longer you wait to train her, the harder it's going to be. Nutrical is a supplement meant for dogs who aren't eating / eating enough, stressed dogs, recovering dogs, and to prevent hypoglycemia in pups.

| Wylies Mom should I wait to see what her blood work shows or give her the nutrical now to prevent her from hypoglycemia?? As of today no more diapers! I just thought I would do them til she was spayed but I guess that wouldnt be good. Thank you so much for your response. |

| At five months old, your puppy should have no issues regulating its own glucose. I think people wayyyy overuse Nutrical. I fed my puppies three times a day and when they were a little bigger I switched over to twice a day. As adults, they can be fasted for 12-14 hours without sugar drops. If Spice is eating well and seems active then I would check w/ her veterinarian as to whether you need to add nutrical.

| Thank you so much. oh yes she is eating and playing just fine! LOL She is almost 6 mo old and seems to be an angel (other than the potty training LOL) The vet said I need to watch for her dislocating her knees and of course everything you would normally watch for in a furbaby. My other little girl is diabetic so when I say I watch for things I do. She gets 2 shots a day and I keep an eye on everything from how much she eats to what her poo looks like! LOL |

| Hi 2.5 lbs is really small so you definitely need some nutrical on hand. One of my pups is really small too. If your pup eats well you don't have to give it to her too often. I free feed my pups so if I leave in the morning and they haven't eaten yet then I would give it to my pup in case she doesn't eat while I'm gone. I also give it to her when she's anxious or stressed. White gums can also be a signal to give them some nutrical. |

| Keep in mind when you give a puppy not eating something to raise there sugar you have to follow it with a protein or they will crash.
