| Diarrhea - My Solution After going through weeks of diarrhea and visits/calls to the vet, I am finally getting some normal looking stools. However, it has been a bit difficult. My Angel was on antibiotic for about 7 days and on a 1/4 of a peptic pill for a few days [about 10 days total]. But nothing was working. I was feeding her plain chicken breast and rice as per my vet. I tried adding pumpkin, but my yorkie did not like it and it upset her stomach. I then added cooked sweet potato and/or shredded raw carrot to the chicken and rice. THIS SEEMED TO DO THE TRICK! STOOLS SLOWLY TURNING BACK TO NORMAL. The minute I added one of those ingredients, the diarrhea went away. I don't get why. I explained this to my vet and she wants me to keep my dog on this diet a little longer. I have been mixing in probiotics. The vet told me not to give my yorkie a supplement/vitamin due to her delicate stomach. I pray my Angel stays on the right track. Stress seems to play a factor in all this. I have an unbelievable stressful situation in my life right now and my Angel is being affected by it. On top of that I have been sick and have to go for some tests. Please keep us in your thoughts. Thanks so much. |

| I have often read that sweet potato can help with this. So glad you had success! On a different note, sorry about your stress right now.

| Will send positive energy your way; I'm thinking you'll have the same success with your health as your baby did hers! Thanks for good information. Now take a deep breath, cuddle with your baby and believe everything will be fine! Wishing you all the best!! |

| So glad you have found something that works, because I know how that situation only adds to you stress! Those lil pups are so attuned to our health and emotions, I wonder how much of her stress is a reflection of yours?

| I keep Albon on hand for diarrhea. Mine wont eat canned pumpkin, but they LOVE baked sweet potatoes! I found that out at Thanksgiving when I was doing my candied yams and sweet potato pies....I took a couple of good sized hunks of boiled sweet potato out to cool, cut it up in little pieces and they all enjoyed it immensely! Good to know it could also possibly help with diarrhea..... |

| thanks to all for your assistance and well wishes Hi, thanks so all for your assistance and well wishes. I thought I would post what worked for me so if anyone runs into the same problem, they can try out some of my solutions. The sweet potato started working almost immediately but it took a few weeks to get back to normal stools. Before I added the sweet potato all I had was diarrhea. I used grated raw carrots as well. I once read that the grated raw carrots added into the diet is not only healthy but it firms up the stool so when your yorkie passes the stool, the anal glands are naturally expressed ... which is good for these little ones as well. I stopped giving her all commercial treats. Praying I will find the right dog food or homemade receipe for her eventually. Vet said it is ok to keep feeding her the way I am for a while. |
