| My Yorkie shakes when my husband holds her, why? Hi there everyone, I'm brand new to this community and I'm a brand new yorkie mom, our little girl is 3 month old. I need some advice or input as to why she will shake when my husband holds her (sometimes). She loves him, she will snuggle with him, play with him, she follows him and looks to him for protection when new people or dog are around, so we can't figure out why she would shake when he holds her. The only thing I can think of is my husband is louder then I am, he likes to play with her more excitingly than I do, could this be why? Does she find him unpredictable or is she excited to be near him? My husband feels really badly about it, he just loves her so we want her to feel safe and happy being held by him, and everyone. Thanks if you can pass on any tips or related stories. |

| I really have no idea but am wondering if he is forcing her to be held by him and it is not her idea? Maybe she feels that she is out of control and is afraid of the unknown happening? My dog shakes when she rides in the car. What is really weird about it is that when I get her harness out to indicate that we are going in the car, she is excited and comes to me to have it put on and then spends the entire car trip shaking and panting. So maybe the shaking does no mean they are not happy but more uncertain about what is going to happen? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | At the shelter where I volunteer, the trainer told me that many dogs are more fearful of men bc of their larger physical presence, and their deeper voice. I'd just continue to have your hubby work with her, holding her and talking gently...maybe even whispering to her, while giving her soothing pets/strokes. I bet this shaking will go away with time, as she learns she is safe. If she was only around female humans as a puppy, this wouldn't be surprising.

When your husband approaches and reaches for her does she back away?

She does back away or run away from my husband when he goes to pick her up, she sometimes thinks it's a game. She does do that with me too but not nearly as much. We have been practicing "sit" so that she has to sit before she is picked up and this has helped a little bit with her not back away from him as much. My husband it's a big guy per say but yes his voice is lower and he is louder so that could be why. That and I have a feeling she does find him unpredictable because he tries new ways to play that Mama doesn't. Thanks for the feedback, we will try Dad being more gentle/calm and see if that helps. | |

| My baby does this as well. He has been with us for 10+ months and shakes when he is in the car going for a ride. He will only allow myself, husband and both of my kids to touch him or pick him up. He WILL NOT allow any one else to even touch him. He will start shaking- sometimes I think, oh my God- his about to have a heart attack. Thus why I never take him out of his element- because people think I am weird cause I don't' allow anyone to touch him, or hold him. Its kind of awkward-so I just keep him away from everyone. In your case: shes still brand new, and still getting to know you all. Be very gentle (which I am sure you are) and continue to show her love and support. Wishing you the best. |

YT Addict | Most dogs have one person who they cling to. Mine do me but they love my husband. But when he comes to bed they bark at him like hes an intruder. Shes just not sure of him. Have him talk to her like a baby and hold her close. She will get use to him in time. Now for those whos baby shakes when riding my boo did even got sick. Putting a seat in back will help. I know i will get flack from this but i also put a pillow in my lap for boo to lay on.The uhaul didnt have a back seat. We road 2600 miles with no problem. No throwing up either. Now she rides great in the car. Going to have hubby build me two of those car seats. There expensive to be made of card board. Last edited by Graneet; 01-21-2015 at 08:18 PM. |
