| morning gagging? Annie has started gagging and sometimes throwing up clear liquid when she gets up in the morning. I free feed her and she does eat before bed. Can't figure out what is wrong? She does sleep all night so maybe she's just hungry? Nothing else seems off... She's acting normal. Any thoughts on what is causing this? |

| Usually foamy light yellow bile means their tummy is empty and they are hungry. But you say it's just clear? Is this every morning? Maybe something like acid reflux?

| It's a bit foamy but most of the time it's just gagging like she is going to throw up but nothing comes up. Not every morning but more like 3-4 times a week? |

YT 500 Club Member | Does it sound like a quick hack (like someone clearing there throat) and then she spit up? Like this video noise http://youtu.be/lN1L1pXdfZM because my dog does this and my vet said could be acid reflex or sensitive trachea. |

| No. Its actually a gag that she's going to throw up... I'm thinking her tummy is empty and because she hasn't eaten for 8-10 hours? She sleeps a long time... it's only first thing in the morning. Never during the day. |

| I do make sure she eats something before she goes to bed. Maybe it's not enough. |

| It could be she isn't eating enough or she needs something easier on her tummy? My pup is fine with dry food during the day but I have found that the rx canned food for sensitive stomachs is good for a bedtime snack. good luck, I know it can be frustrating. |

| You may be right. She's a picky eater and sometimes I have to hand feed her to get her to eat. I'm such a sucker! But I worry about blood sugar drops. She always has food available both wet and dry but she has to be coerced into eating. I'll try some extra treats at bedtime and see how that works. |

| If you haven't already tried Freshpet you might give it a try, really good for picky eaters. My dog likes it TOO much, it's all she thinks about when it is in the house. |

| Teddy was doing deep hacking/coughing in the morning, with his head thrust forward and neck stretched like he was trying to cough up a hairball. Discovered it was from an empty tummy so we give him a late snack of canned food. He is not doing it now.
