| first and let's hope last hypoglycemic event So thank god my sister in law moved in (probably the only time I'll ever say that). Around 3 this afternoon she calls me and says there is something wrong with Bruiser. He's dizzy and his head is floppy. I'm on my way I tell her. Wasn't even done seeing patients. I call the vet let them know I'm on my way and why, then call my boss and tell her to pass along that "I'm out of office". I pull in my driveway and she is standing on my porch with my dog. He looks like someone just spun him a bunch of times and he's head hasn't caught up with the rest of him. The tech takes him from me, and I feel like my husband did when they rushed me into emergency surgery to deliver my preemie baby. I'm standing at the reception desk wringing my hands and wondering what this trouble maker that I love so much got into this time. She comes back and said we think he'll be okay but the doc is still checking him out. His blood sugar is 28. (I should know what this means, but at that moment I'm not thinking) she gave him some karos and is trying to warm him. His temp is only 96. And then she's gone again. An hour later she hands me my 3lbs 4oz 22 week old puppy and says you need to watch him tonight. I give them my credit card and i leave. I didn't ask any questions, I feel like an igit. We came home he eats a whole can of wet food (hasn't touched wet food since he was about 8 weeks old) and now he's wrapped in a blanket my mom made him and laying on my chest in front of the igit box. What do I need to watch for? How long will he be like this? Any thoughts appreciated.

| So glad your SIL was there for Bruiser. It is so scary when they are sick. I know you have to check the gums to make sure they are pink not white. With Buster I fed him a in the morning- afternoon-dinner-snack before bed to make sure his blood sugar stayed constant. He is fat now so he has to much reserves to get hypoglycemic now. I also would give Buster Nutrical gel if he looked woozy and then some protein after. The Nutrical/kayro/honey jump starts them but they need the protein for long term fuel burn or they will just crash again after the burn through the "sugar" Glad it turned out okay they do give us a fright! Here is a good YT link http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...ulse-gums.html

| Glad someone was home or that could have been very bad. Hope he dosent have another one. Just make sure he eats every couple of hours and that you know all the things to check for hypoglycemia.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | SO glad he is okay, phew! Hopefully, he'll grow out of this as he matures - that's what usually happens. I'd get some Nutrical asap, and give it prophylactically - give first thing in morning when you get up, give every 4 hours during day if you can, give right before going to bed at night. Feed meals 3-4x per day.

| Yorkies aren't just any dog...They're very special and need to be looked after and treated individually; and you have a precious little baby (not a dog, yet) who needs and counts on you to do right by him. I think you should follow your heart and instincts when it comes to your little one. I bet your husband can adjust a little--after all, he's the adult, right? People do it all the time and manage to figure it out just fine! "Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them." John Grogan |

| I apologize if I came across as rather harsh; of course your husband must be wonderful--he's married to you and you sound delightful! Your baby is in the best possible hands. Again, I hope you'll forgive me (1st time yorkie 'parent') as I guess I get a little overly protective toward all these little tikes--not just my Piper girl. Oh well, a gal could have worse vices, yes? May your little one make a speedy and complete recovery. |

| Sorry to hear Bruiser is having some problems, and I hope they figure out what it is and that he recovers soon. It sure makes us worry when things aren't right and it takes a while to diagnose. Hope he's better soon.

| Has had 3 doses of the antibiotics, he's back to his old self except still won't eat the kibble. Wellness brand, I just bought the new bag, so I'm a little bummed. I tried mixing it with the Ceasars wet food, but he'll eat around the kibble. It will be the end of the week before I hear back on the blood/poop results. I'll update when I know more.
