Yorkie Talker | Planing on getting a companion for my yorkie Hi so after recently getting my yorkie girl a few days ago I decided il be getting another yorkie for her to play with probably in a month or so. But I have a few questions how do I find a good breeder and not a back yard breeder and I want to get another female but my son is insisting I get a boy but I'd I do decide to get a boy how soon can I get him natured I don't want them to breed at all I want them to be happy and not breed because that's not my intentions. I really have my heart set on getting a little girl but just in case I do go with a boy I want to be prepared with all the information I can read about getting them spayed and or nutured. Thanks I'm still trying to figure how to load pics of my new baby. |

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html First what I would suggest is that you wait until your current is at least one year old - most especially if you want a boy or decide on a boy, then you have gone ahead already with her spay. Also she should be housebroken and have basic obedience commands b*mostly* by then. The other thing to remember is that the first year of owning is usually the most expensive what with the vaccinations and spaying et al. Also waiting until one year old you will have a little better idea if your current gal is healthy. We have great articles in the library - like the one I linked above for new puppy owners etc. If you want to read a lot about spay and neuter, I can link a thread for you that has lots of information about studies done. It is a topic worthy of your attention as is the vaccination schedule. For all pet owners I say when owning two sexes of dogs, that one dog should be spayed or neutered. Frankly overall the female for most breeds is the obvious choice to spay. The benefits/risks for females slightly favor spaying. Also the pet owner does not have to worry about keeping her safe from being bred. Good luck with your research and enjoy your new puppy!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Most people spay their female yorkies around 5-8 mths, before the first heat. For neuters, it seems to be from 4-8 mths. I usually wait until later, rather than early bc I've had small ones. It might be nice to get them both as puppies bc then you get through the potty training at the same time.

Yorkie Talker | Thank you all for the advice and you guys are right I think I'm going to do a littl more research and probably wait a few months I'm not really in a hurry so I think taking My time and reading about spaying and neutering might help. Thank you, you really did make me think I never thought that the first year will be expensive with the shots and everything so maybe I should wait and do more research and not get over my head when the time is rightI will then decide to get another Yorky and hopefully by then I will have interviewed multiple breeders thank you guys once again. |
