| Advice on my puppies stringy coat! Hello everyone! I am a new member and you may have seen my posting that introduced our newest member of the family, Mac! Mac our new morkie, and is just over 10 weeks old. I am new to the breed and did a little research on grooming and such. In the last couple of weeks, his hair will seriously look stringy 5 minutes after brushing, and shortly after bathing. He does have a very thin coat that I can't catch with a comb at all and had to buy a soft baby brush. After doing some reading hear, I feel lucky that his hair doesn't tangle. He could really go days without being brushes and we'd have no problems. On top of that, his coat has become very shiny, and combined with the stringy almost makes him look too greasy? I am tired of my fiance saying I need to give him another bath! lol. I've gathered that it has to do with his coat type. I'd think his hair wouldn't get stringy as quickly if I was using some better product. Thanks in advance! |

| It has been a while since my baby Abigail's beautiful silky hair. However, our new baby Hermione also looks stringy after just a little while. I wonder if this kind of works out as they get older? I know their coats change over time. I just tried a new groomer today, and asked her about brushing and static electricity (which makes Nini's hair tangle so easily). She suggested rubbing a drier sheet over her in-between bath time to control the static. I wonder if that's a healthy practice, though. |

| When Max was a puppy, I used a flea comb with very closely spaced teeth to comb his entire body and head. Puppy hair doesn't require a lot of product. Go easy with light conditioner and a good shampoo and that should help combat the greasy, stringy look.

YT Addict | I have a pure bred silky yorky. He is eight months old. He has a soft long hair on top. His back as it grows out is softer near the base of his hair but towards the ends its thiner and more wirey. I think as they get older it gets better. But not sure about morkies. I brush boo's hair and soon as i put him down he shakes and its a mess all over. Especially where its different lengths. The breeder gave him a summercut. Im letting it grow out. His sister is half his size and length and is pure silver grey body with blonde top. Boo is blonde on top. Then gold brown around face hes beginning to show the silver grey coming out on his back. I even tried a cream rinse panteen. Hope i got the right kind. A little softer but didnt help tame his shaggy dog hair. So figure it will get better as he ages. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be just a puppy stage he's going thru, it's so hard to say. But to get through this, you could use a dry shampoo for him - either a human one or dog one, they're the same thing.

| Does anyone have some recommendations on shampoo? I know nothing about what brands are good... etc. I did hear about minksheen, but I don't think that is what I want, something with oil. |

| I don't think I would use Minksheen on a puppy. I use John Paul Pet (Paul Mitchell) puppy tearless shampoo for Lily. I have been pleased with it.

| Well -- that's how I felt, as well. I do have all natural coconut oil I can use. I'll look into pet sheen. |

| Sounds like your current shampoo may have silicones in it. Look see. You will need a clarifier if it does to get that buildup off. |
