| Winnies topknot Hi all!! Winnie is 6 months old!! Hard to believe time has gone so fast! She's doing much better for grooming as far as brushing bathing clipping nails etc...she sits for it all.....but she is still awful for her topknot. She doesn't sit still so I can never get the short hairs in the front....and she just rubs and rubs on anything until she gets it all pulled out. They stay in barely 5 minutes. All I have been using is a band because I don't want her pulling her bow out and eating it. Is there something else I should be doing or do I just keep going until she finally gives in?? |

| They will evenually get used to it. Just set a daily routine of grooming. When I first started with Peanut's top knot he would try to rub it out and it was tough to keep it in there for any length of time but it would usually help to distract him with a ply time or walk right after. Just be patient. It will work. |

| I found that giving a treat after the topknot is in helped Gracie to be much better about it. Instead of running off she will sit and wait for her treat. I keep a little bag of small freeze dried all meat treats near where I do her grooming. They sell little neck pillows for dogs that get topknots. They call it a topknot pillow. It is certainly not necessary but it does hold the head in a comfortable position while you work on the knot. Gracie sits on my lap with the pillow when getting her topknot done. Getting a regular routine in the way you do the topknot helps the dog to be more comfortable in the process. Are you using the little grooming bands made for topknots? They hold the little hairs much better and the latex free ones are better at not pulling at the hair. Make sure that none of the hairs in the topknot are pulling or tight on her head. You want those hairs nice and loose. The distraction of a treat and a little play after putting the topknot in will keep her from trying to take the topknot out if it is not pulling on her head. |

| Thanks for the encouragement!! I usually sit her on my lap with a pillow under her chin. She sits for about 2 seconds....long enough for me to gather it up. But not enough time to band it!!!! I use the band's that mimimomo sent with her bows....they are soft rubber. They stay in for the most part but she gets them rubbed up to the top of her knot haha. I don't think any hairs are being pulled but her hair on her head is also reallllllly fine....so it is the teenie st topknot I have ever seen in the first place haha I will get a picture sized down so you all can see her current state! |

| Just a little hint we picked up a little neck pillow from Sears in the baby department. It's made by Eddie Bauer with a little monkey face. She sometimes curls up with it to snuggle in her play pen. It fits her neck perfect also.Still working on teaching her to sit for the top knot really like the idea for treats after verrrrry good.

| Hang in there Hi, I was just in the same place as you, my boy would not stay still for 2 seconds when it came to topknot . But everyday I would sit him in front of me and gently brush his topknot hair and usually he would be on the move after I had just combed it once but surprisingly at about 7months he stayed still a bit longer until now at 8months he sits still has his hair done then gets a treat and cuddle. I thought it would never happen so hang in the because slow and steady wins the race

| My first yorkie Milo didn't accept a topknot until he was 1 year old. I think I tried every trick in the book and he would still have it out in a matter of minutes. When he turned 1 it was like he made a switch over night and it didn't bother him anymore. |

| It may take a bit of time. Be patient. Keep trying. You can try the tiny scunchies from the 'Dollar' stores. If you don't get the topknot in on the first try, just pull all the loops up together and it will slide right off so you can try again. Also, with the tiny scunchies, there should not be breakage if Winnie does manage to 'scratch' or 'rub' out the topknot. You can wash and re-use them, too, and use multple colors at once. I use 2 colors most of the time, sometimes 3 scunchies, all different colors, to match their outfits. Also, I found an infant head pillow for use in car seats. It has cute faces on both ends. I tried using it, because it was a perfect topknot sized neck pillow, but Brody considered it 'one of his toys. Fortunately, both he and I were pretty good at putting his hair up by then and we didn't need or use it. Now, he is super good and very still, and it only takes a second to put his hair up...all three of my Yorkies are that good, too, and he gets a regular tiny band when he gets a bow...when I can be with him the whole time...but the rest of the time, he gets tiny schunchies, but, regardless, he always gets a topknot. Good luck! You and Winnie will get there!

| Puppies really don't want to sit still for anything more than a few seconds. Just keep up a routine and give a treat when your done and eventually.....in a few months.....things will get better. Maybe try to pick a time when he may be getting sleepy or has been exercised quite a bit so he's not all full of himself. |
