| How To Get Pee Odor Out Of A Carpet So my dog has been peeing on the carpet for a few months now. I've tried my best to clean it up when I saw it happen, but I didn't always catch him in the act and the spot where he peed wasn't always visible. He was on antibiotics at the time which apparently makes the pee even stronger smelling. My entire livingroom REEKED. It was unbearable. We tried 5 different carpet cleaning solutions with no luck. We were devastated about replacing the carpet since the estimated price was $1,200 for the room. Luckily, we tried one more thing, and it worked! Here's the directions to get almost any pee smell out of your house for good! This is great for extreme cases. Pull the carpet up, spray one part water to one part white vinegar solution on the carpet pad and the back of the carpet. Let sit for 10min. Blot with white terry cloth towels. Then spray carpet enzyme (any one will do) to the same area. Let sit for 1 hour. Blot with towel. Roll back carpet, to the top part. Use carpet stretcher or other tool to replace carpet. Use one part vinegar, one part water solution in a "rug doctor" carpet cleaner (usually you can rent one at a grocery store). Use a fan to dry area. Let dry until smell dissipates. Treat area again with enzyme spray. Place damp cloths over treated area. Let sit for 4 hours. Remove damp cloths. Let air dry. Once it's finally dry, optionally used, "Vaportek Restorator" or wipe down/clean walls where oder attaches to paint or wall paper. If you do use the "Vaportek" leave it running anywhere from 4 hours to 8 days depending on the level of problem. Additionally, "Vaportek" also sells products that you can place inside of your HVAC to remove any odor that got trapped inside of your air conditioning. While carpet is pulled back and carpet pad is exposed, check below carpet pad to see if there are any stains on the subfloor. If there's stains to the subfloor, depending if it's wood or concrete, you may need to use a cleaning solution and a special sealer to seal the subfloor before replacing carpet pad, so no more damage can occur. Replacement of carpet pad may be necessary depending on odor and saturation. Carpet pad is cheap, carpet isn't. |
