| Question about puppies.... Trinket will be 5 months this coming Thursday. She has just now made it to 2 lbs. She is a skinny girl and has been since I brought her home. She has a healthy appetite and is a healthy girl just on the thin side. She is just a bit longer and a tad bigger than my chunky adult 2 lb Chihuahua which is finer boned than she is. Her head is bigger and you can tell she has more bone. I assumed she would start bulking up by now. Have any of you ever had puppies that stayed thin, is this normal for a Yorkie puppy? Should I have her thyroid checked or any other test ran on her just to be safe? She does not look that thin due to her coat but she is a thin girl. |

| She had a puppy check when we first got her and she checked out fine. She has only went for vaccinations since then and nothing has been said. She has been following the charts in gaining 1 to 2 oz a week. Her mom's weight fluxes between 3 to 3 1/2 lbs and her dad weighs between 2.5 to 2.12 lbs and she seems to be charting like her dads weight. However both mom and dad looked bigger to me than what the breeder said they weighed. Or at least bigger than my larger Chihuahuas that weigh around 3 1/2 lbs. I find it interesting at the builds between the two breeds as the Yorkies always seem larger than a Chihuahua at the same weight. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | She may be just naturally a little thinner...or, she may continue to fill out as she approaches a year old, as many do. If you think she actually needs to put on a little weight, feed little treats of calorie-dense foods like peanut butter and cheese...not a ton, of course, but little treats of it.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Before her spay get a *full blood panel done* and I would also do BATS, if the T4 (thyroid) level is low normal, I might opt for the expanded Thyroid testing - an additional blood tests and of course additional $

| I think it's normal. My Chloe is 1 and she's about 3 pounds. She's pretty tiny and I feed her enough food. I think especially since her mom and dad are also small dogs it's perfectly normal that yours is 2 pounds. If you want her to gain a little weight, I agree with Wylies Mom about the peanut butter and cheese. It also depends on how much she eats now? If you are feeding her very little then you can increase the food amount a little bit if Trinket will eat it.

YT 500 Club Member | This is how Honey is, she is 2 now and is 3 pounds. She eats and drinks when she is ready and loves to play. I took her to the vet and they said she is just fine and her weight is as well. If you are worried I would do what the others said and take her to the vet. |

| Thanks everyone. She is free fed a grain free organic kibble and gets a pre-made RAW meal every night before bed with some coconut oil. She has a healthy appetite. I always have blood work done before spay/neuter and before having it done I will talk to vet about my concerns and the tests mentioned above. |

| Thanks, yes I have made and fed satin balls to my Great Dane trying to bulk him up for the show ring sadly I never had much luck with them. I did have luck with Bil Jac frozen not the best dog food out there but I may give it a try. |
