YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Dog dies after eating mushrooms Dog dies after eating mushrooms in owner's yard This story is from Colorado and might provide a timely warning for all. Mushrooms like lots of rain, and will of course grow in your backyard. Many many varieties of mushrooms are not poisonous, how-ever some are, and many can cause digestion upset. Check your yard frequently not only for mushrooms, but things like crabapples, garbage that drifts into your yard, etc.

| Due to many high old oak trees in my back yard I get very little sunshine and lots of mushrooms, I have always checked my yard and pull them out when I see them. Better safe the sorry is what I live by. To all that will read this thread, see a mushroom, pull it out.

| Thank you for sharing this. We have had so much rain and cool weather over the last couple of months that we have a mushroom forest. I have to watch the boys very closely. They know when I say "Mushrooms!' to move along. A YT member lost one of her Yorkies to mushroom ingestion.

| We have been lucky that ours seem to be growing outside the fence but I keep my eyes out. We have 3 acres and all the way in the back we had one that looks like a brain it's huge. I didn't have my phone at the time but I keep wanting to go back out there and get a picture. I noticed when I took Callie for a walk the neighbors have them all in there front yards. Is it best to pull the ones in our yard and toss them or just leave them alone?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Not if you like mushrooms, it's pretty easy to farm them in a dark closet.

| In California we have the Death Cap Mushroom that is responsible for many deaths with humans and dogs. People from Asia mistaken it for a native edible mushroom and those who have eaten it and survived ended up needing a liver transplant. No matter how vigilant dog owners are, the problem is they are very small when they first sprout (usually after a rain) and hard to see especially if they are below grass line or surrounded by foliage. You may not even be aware your dog has eaten one. I was told they are enticing to dogs because they have a sweet fragrant that they can smell.

| When i pick unknown or poisonous shrooms i cover it with a plastic bag to try and keep the spores from dropping and growing more. I used to have a morel mushroom patch, and i always thumped the tops b4 picking to drop spore. |

| I use to have them pop up in quite a few places after rain, but after digging out the soil a few inches under them they haven't come back at all in almost a year despite cooler temperatures and rain lately. But I still always do a morning tour around the yard for the first 3 days after rain to make sure, and Cook is always on a leash at night when she goes out to pee.
