YT 500 Club Member | How Often Do You Feed So Sammie has been home for 3 months. He throws up a yellow bile at least once a week. Now this week he has thrown up bile but it has food in it. Should I be concerned. Still a hyper crazy puppy. Not acting sick. His blood work for his neuter was perfect. I feed him at 7 and then again at 3 whereas I work till 3. I leave food for him but he will not eat if I am not home. ]Il |

| Both my boys free feed. Neither like to eat big meals, they like to eat a little at a time throughout the day and evening. Both are pad trained so I don't worry about late night walks, they can go on the pads whenever they need. It's funny how much alike they are. Jeter is 3 months old and I would fix him his food and he wouldn't gobble it all down, he has a very healthy appetite but prefers to eat at a slower pace. My older boy is 8 and has eaten the exact same way since the day I brought him home. He's been 7 lbs for years and doesn't over eat. |

| My Rolo does the same, if he won't eat a meal sometimes he will throw up bile because he's not eaten. I asked the vet about it this week when he went for his booster, he said it was perfectly normal and nothing to worry about and to continue feeding him regular small meals as I had been doing. |

| Sammie only gets fed 2 x's a day? 7am & 3pm? That's a long time to go w/out food in the pm until the morning. I feed my guys 3 x's a day...they'll eat 6 x's a day if they had it their way loll.

| 3 times a day! May want to try different dishes to eat out of or better yet get him hooked on one of these... Amazon.com : OurPets Smarter Toys IQ Treat Ball... I have 2! They entertain themselves having fun getting their food . And you could put food in a little kong too....smear a little peanut butter on the top to get him interested...it would put a little something their tummy. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would feed him again around bed time and see if that helps his tummy. What time is he vomiting the bile - is it around the same time?

| I am in favor of free feeding when they are very young, although I know certain circumstances make that hard. But when they are little, they can only eat a little at a time, so to me it makes sense to have food available often so will get enough to develop and grow. My girls all started out with free feeding, and after the first year, they pretty much ate a measured amount twice a day, with an occasional treat midday. It does seem that your pup might need a little more food before bedtime, maybe even a snack. Going from 3pm to 7am is 16 hrs and maybe too long between feedings.

| What food are you feeding? If it's yellow bile then all it means is that his stomach is empty and he hasn't had enough food. I home cook for my yorkie and feed her 3x a day with small meals. I usually feed the most food for breakfast though, if I am not going to be home for a while until her next meal. I would say to try and feed a little more for breakfast before you leave because 7-3 is 8 hours of time. Chloe won't eat either if I am not home but I did leave her dry food when she was a puppy before I started home cooking.

YT 500 Club Member | I feed him Blue Buffalo. I gave him a little more than usually this morning and then left more down when I left and when I came home there was no throw up. So maybe I was not feeding him enough. I also give him a handful of dry food around 8 and that seems to help. The problem is he eats everything like a goat!! So who knows if he is not upsetting his stomach, |

| I used to do just two meals (6am and 5pm) but Toki started throwing up small amounts of bile early in the morning so I cut down the meal portions so that I could increase the feedings to three meals (6am, 5pm, and 9pm). The meal a little before bedtime seems to have helped a lot with Toki's tummy. |

YT 500 Club Member | My puppies don't like to eat early in the morning.. I don't feed them their first meal until 10:00am. They get fed 2-3 times a day. I leave it out and let them eat when they want. |

| I used to feed 3 times a day but noticed by dinner time Teddy showed no interest in eating at all. So now I only feed 2 times a day 10am & 4pm. At 1pm we do 10 minutes of training sessions so he gets treats in between and nutri-cal too. He seems to be happier with this schedule now then before. |
