| How to keep puppy off grass after weed killer has been sprayed My Smokie goes potty outside on the grass. I am looking for alternatives when he can't go on the grass because it has been sprayed with weed killer or fertilizer. I have one of the potty patches, but can't seem to get him to use it. Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Thanks........ |

What we do is spray the front and back yard at different times. So when the front yard is sprayed they can go potty in the back yard. | |

| How long do you have to keep pups off grass when you use fertilizer?

| Lola goes out via leash, so we used to head across the street. But since I was used to just standing by the door and letting her go out on the leash I got lazy and I asked them to stop treating the part out in front of my door. They say to wait at least 24 hours but I wait at least three days and only after it has been watered several days. It's another reason why even with a fence I have Lola go potty on a leash, it makes it so much easier to control where in the yard she goes or what she might get into if she was running around loose in the yard.

| after being on Yorkie Talk and hearing so many horror stories of what can happen even in a fenced yard, I would never allow Lola to run loose behind a fence unless I was there with her to see what she was doing. My sister lets her yorkie Lucy run all over the yard, Lucy has picked up dead animals, burrs and she never knows if and when she went to the bathroom last. More than once Lucy was outside and a pool guy or yard guy came in and left the gate open and before she could get out there the dog was in the street.

| That's the reason I don't have grass in my back yard, just weeds that I weed wack, lol. What I would do if I were you, do 1/2 of yard, buy plastic fencing, fence off the area just sprayed. Wait the proper amount of time then spray the untreated part, that's what I would do. When I was landscaping my back yard I had to truck in soil. I did it in 2 stages, fenced off the fresh soil until it was graded and settled, then did the other half and fenced that off. I used plastic green fencing, not the construction kind, really don't know what it's called, got it at Home Depot, was not expensive. The front of my house has grass, my pup is not allowed on that, that's the only thing he is NOT ALLOWED to do lol. When I use Round Up on my driveway I will carry him to the car until I have 2 good rain falls. But this is me. Better to be safe then sorry.

| Thanks for all of the responses. I live in a townhouse and there is a strip of grass between mine and neighbors house. This area was not treated with weed killer. This is where Smokie will be doing his business for the next few days. I was told to wait 24 hours and it is suppose to rain tomorrow. I will wait a couple more days to be sure. I will also ask the landscaper not to treat the area where Smokie does his business in the future. It is a strip of grass outside of the fence in the front yard. I don't let Smokie out to potty without a lease either. I have a fenced in front and backyard but I would never let him out there by himself. You never know what is in the yard and I try to monitor closely what he picks up and eat. He is only 5 months old and likes to put everything in his mouth. |
