YT 500 Club Member | New male pup, need guidance pls.... So I have Izzy now. She's almost 8 months. We just lost her sister a month ago , and she's been so lonely since then (and so have I) that He's decided to get me another pup for my birthday present. I have a wonderfully sweet boyfriend.. Everyone who has them available now in my area has males. I'm going to visit someone this week who has one who is the same age as Izzy. I figured that's better than getting one younger and having her be too rough with him...right? Now I need to know about boys. My boyfriend thinks all boys go around humping everything. God I hope not. And when do they start marking things and how can I prevent this? What age do all these momentous things occur and how should I go about introducing them to see if they get along? My birthday is on the 6th, so this is gonna be happening soon. I just want to hear anything you think I need to know about doing this... |

| I am soooo happy you will be getting another baby. As for males. I adopted my lil boy several months ago, he was 2 1/2 y/o. His prev. owner had him neutered at a very early age (I have the papers on that) , before the leg lifting (marking) began. The longer you wait to neuter and the longer he lifts leg to pee-pee & mark it becomes a habit that may not be broken after he is neutered (that is if you are planning to neuter). Ask your vet what age to neuter the male. If Izzy is 8 months old and lil boy is same age, that is when most males get neutered 7 or 8 months old, always check with your vet. My lil boy squats when he pee-pees and DOES NOT HUMP does not mark, no leg lifting period. I am NOT saying neutered males do not hump, just saying mine does not, but I didn't have him as a baby, I don't know what he did as a puppy. Again so very happy you are planning on getting another baby for lil Izzy and yourself.

| Barney was neutered at 5 months. He's now almost 2. He rarely humps. I honestly can't remember the last time he did. He tries to lift his leg outside to pee. It's kind of funny because he squats first. So only a drop comes out when he lifts his leg. But I admire him for trying. Anna also occasionally humps. She's around 7. So I am not sure that you can completely avoid the behavior.

| I am so sorry for your loss. I think a three month old puppy would be fine. I had three Yorkie females who are now at the Rainbow Bridge. My first one, Ashley, was six months old when I brought her sister, Kiwi, home (8 weeks old before I knew it's better to wait until 12 weeks). They played beautifully together. A year later we brought 6.5 month old Gracie home, who was very tiny. They were all puppies, so they accepted each other and loved each other so much.

YT 500 Club Member | Only thing is I'm not able to buy from a breeder this time. I'm having to buy him secondhand. But I am being careful to check their records and such... I'm going this morning to meet the second puppy. The first one was so big at 4 months he looked like he might grow up to be a Scottish terrier. Lol. He was a linebacker Yorkie. Cute as hell though. Anyway, I'll do the best I can with what I'm given to work with. I'm taking izzy with me to meet them to make sure they are compatible , too. |

| I have never had a male Yorkie though I have had several male dogs over the years. Since I found YT a few years ago I notice a lot of people who have problems with their male dogs marking and humping. I know that humping can have more to do with excitement than sexuality but the marking is something I question. Getting a male puppy neutered before he reaches sexual maturity would be helpful in preventing marking since neutering stops the production of male hormone. Many times if you wait until a male dog has been sexually mature for quite a while before you neuter him it takes time for the hormonal thing to get out of his system. The terrier in general is a more feisty dog than many breeds so you need to be prepared to deal with that type of thing in advance. Lots of exercise and proper obedience training is always an aid in helping your dog be a more relaxed and happy family member. |

YT Addict | I just got my first boy ever. I was concerned with marking to and getting excited and being nasty. But none of that has happened. He has tried hummping i just stop him and tell him no. He does no marking. But you could use a belly band if it did become an issue. I liked having a boy for that reason. Helped with potty training. My boy is 6 months old. |

| I've only had male Yorkies. My 8 yr old was neutered at 6 months and has never lifted his leg or marked. He only humps the throw pillows on the couch but only when he's really excited and playful and it is very brief. My little guy is still a baby at 12 weeks and will be neutered as soon as the vet says it's ok to. In my experience, I have seen more females humping than males. |

| You need to be careful or you are going to end up with an Oopsie and your female would be in danger if that happened because she's so young. I would have spayed her way before bring in another dog at her age she could go into heat any day.
