| grooming Hi there~I wasn't exactly sure where to post this...but I have some grooming questions in regards to Winnie. She went to the vet today...and we talked about the fact that she will not let me brush her. She spins and wiggles and bites the comb or brush...so she told me that I basically needed to make her sit still. I came home and gave her a bath...used extra conditioner and then sat with her on my lap on a towel and started to comb. An hour later and we wrestled some but i got a good amount of the little mats out of her hair...we are taking a break. Im using Viva La Dog Spa grooming spritz that says it detangles/no static, and a variety of combs...plastic ones. I used a slicker brush a little bit too. Is there a better product out there to get at the mats? It did work eventually but I had to spray a ton of it...and it still took a good amount of work on one little section of hair. These are some pictures of the spoiled little thing this morning before her bath (outside)...and after an hour of combing (on the couch)...as you can see we still have some work to do on the bottom half of her! But she does look much better!! Thanks in advance!!!! |

| Nature's Miracle can be bought at PetCo. and is great! It works great on Giggy. You'll need to brush & comb her hair every day or 2 though or you will have lots of tangles. |

| I don't think I'd use the slicker brush on her unless her coat is longer and free of mats. They can actually be painful for some dogs, so you might consider getting her a brush similar to this: Amazon That's what I use for Billi and brushing her got a lot easier, she tolerated it better. We also use the Viva La Dog Spa products and they're great!! Make sure the mats are really saturated before combing and just go slow with it. She's probably uncomfortable so I'm sure she's getting impatient about it. If any are too bad, you might just snip a piece of the mat to comb the rest of it out. You can also just saturate the mat with conditioner and do it that way before her bath. Mats are the worst, but you'll get 'em! Good luck with it!!

| I do have that brush...or one similar to it....I have two of those and metal and plastic comb variety...and a rat tail with the metal tail. I wound up using the vey skinny plastic comb that came with the clipper set I use to cut my sons hairs. All the rest were impossible to use on her because she is so tiny...I contemplated buying the teeny tiny brush and comb by lil pals at the pet store...but I didn't. Now I wish I did!! haha isn't that the way. I have to say ... she does look like a totally different pup with her hair brushed!! not so much like a dust bunny running around. But you can tell how tiny she is now. |

| The slicker brush I was real careful with...just pulled the hair up and kept my fingers between the brush and her. I used it only a couple times...after I combed a few sections to smooth it out. |

| Puppy hair is SUCH a PITA!! lol I remember Jackson's hair would look good for all of 5 mins after I brushed it out. He's kept short too because I am too lazy to deal with grooming plus he is miserable and hates it too. He's literally sooo low maintenance with his hair short. He gets professionally groomed every 8 weeks or so and in between I just bathe him once every 10 days-ish. I don't ever brush him except for bath days I comb his face and tail. His crazy puppy hair: Now:

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Yorkies are full of energy especially when grooming. My groomer is very careful to take time and let the dog take breaks in between brushing. My JoJo got groomed today and we were patient but he was wiggly. Same thing about brushing the teeth. Start slow, smelling and tasting the toothpaste. Then slowly put it in the side of the mouth. Now my boys love it. I use the Toothpaste from the vet, vanilla mint flavor. Just have to be very patient with Yorkies. Soon they will settle down and cooperate. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I had this same problem. I bought a small grooming table, I spray him with conditioner what I use is a product called the stuff, then I bath him, back to the grooming table more spray, more brushing, then blow dry while I'm brushing. In short the grooming table is a life saver for me.

| Where did you get your grooming table and if I can ask how much was it. My Teasell fights me and I keep it down to just a few minute at a time. I am thinking Teasell may get clipped short Though she is so cute with a long look |

| If its matted, bad, cut it, mild, use a comb and other hand hold hairs at base so your not yanking pups hair out, slowly work mats out. We slicker brush twice a day and have no matting problems, bath weekly. |

| Hang in there! Brushing time was just so upsetting to both Joni and me. I thought I was hurting her but there were so many matts in that puppy fur, I was afraid not to brush her as well. The Madan pin brush along with a detangling spray helped but I think just the routine of a morning and nightly brushing eventually became soothing. Now, a few months later, all I have to do is hold up her pink brush and Joni comes running to get brushed out. She loves it --- never thought we would get to this point! |

| The more I work on them the more I'm noticing that the hair is tangled at the root and it's different hair....it's more like fuzz....I've been doing just a little at a time when she is sleepy or snuggly feeling so she is less bouncy. I work on the tangled parts for about 10 minutes and then comb the smooth parts for a bit then give her a break. She seems to be getting a little more tolerant the more I get done. I'm trying to avoid cutting her hair if I can. This morning before I left for church I sprayed some tangles and when I got home sprayed again and combed it...they worked out a little easier. But it's still taking time. Once we get her all smoothed out we will go to daily brushing once or twice! Lesson learned! Don't let her cuteness get her out of brushing! Thanks for all your advice!! |
