| Thoughts on this Website? I'm in the process of trying to find a breeder for my future Yorkie that I'm hoping to get early next year. I came across this site, but wasn't sure what to make of it. Any thoughts or breeder suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in Lancaster PA if that matters. Pup E Palace-AKC Yorkie Pups |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Overall Summary - not really favourite. Here is why: She mentions no health tests that are done on her breeding stock. None of her breeding stock are AKC champions, and one pedigree I looked at, the only champions were 4 or 5 generations back. None of her breeding stock looked like they could even earn a championship. In otherwords NONE look like good representatives of the breed. Her guarantee is slightly better than I have seen, how-ever it is at her "sole" discretion if she would refund part of the money back should your pup get ill. Otherwise it is the usual crap of return the puppy to me business. She will not warrant against LP - yet she does not even state she breeds LP free dogs......... Caution Caution Caution. THe fact that she will at time to time list *friends dogs for sale** huh? Finally there is no way I would pay $800-$900 for a puppy that is likely to be a poor example of the breed.

Also the fact that she is stating her pups that were born on 8/28/14 will be ready to go on 10/16/14 which is at 7 weeks old!!!!!! Not good!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with Gemy and Cat2861. By the way the YTCA recommends that Yorkies stay with mom a minimum of 12 weeks, 7 weeks is way too young, it wouldn't even pass state law for large breeds in some states, small breeds have special needs. Shes also projecting their adult weight based upon their weights at 2 weeks, this is nonsense.

| Did you check the breeders listed on YTCA - Yorkshire Terrier Club of America? WhT I have learned is "chose the breeder first then pick your puppy" and don't be in a hurry. The healthy pup is going to be with you for many, many years. WELCOME To YT! Glad you found us. There is a lot of great advice here.

| Thanks guys. I looked at the YTCA locally but nothing seems to be there. I'm willing to travel some but not go a crazy distance. |

This way you can get to meet the breeders, see their dogs, and have more info to make your decision upon.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I just noticed you are from Lancaster, you will need to be very careful, puppy mills are everywhere there, and I'm talking about some that are extremely inhumane. They sell to brokers, so you won't even know that you are buying from a puppymill. Thee are many good breeders in PA, even if you have to travel, it's worth it, your Yorkie could be a member of your family for 16 years or more. | Lancaster is about 45 minutes from Harrisburg. According to map quest, I'm about 5hours from Buffalo. I know I need to worry about Puppy mills and now I'm like super paranoid of the sites I see. When I started my search, I was going to get my Yorkie where we got our German Shepherd but looking closer I found out that they were a broker. |

You are wise to be super paranoid. We will help you review any site, just like we have done right now. Harrisburg also has a big show up and coming - it was late year late fall, or early winter.

I always advise calling and asking if they can talk at that time. Good breeders are busy and receive lots of looky loos. Ask about their breeding program and if they think if a Yorkie is a good fit for you, be ready to hear any advise they have. The idea is to build a relationship with this person and have someone you can talk with if there's a problem. A good breeder can help in so many ways, I call Joey's breeder before I call the vet sometimes! Be willing to get on a waiting list, this will let them know you are serious about wanting to support quality breeders and many breeders don't even breed until they have homes for all the offspring.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | You are absolutely right Nancy. Many breeders particularly working dog breeders don't breed until we have pre-approved homes. Part of the "homework" of the show breeder, is to go to a show, like we did this weekend, Saturday we did a Fun sanction Match with our puppy, Sunday we just visited around. WE ran into some more BRT owner/breeders out with their puppy to do the same thing. Much looking back n forth, advising on this that or the other thing. My grooming of Dara was "off", so we discussed how I tell my pro groomer what to do. We ran her by two professional handlers, each who have agreed to show her. And believe you me, they know dogs! And of course they put their hands all over her. Evaluation: Ready to be shown, nice angulations, great movement, sweet girl ! We of course watched these handlers in the ring, making sure they had not lost their edge, before we approached them. And of course they know me. I pulled Zoey from the show ring, as in my judgement she was NOT a Good example of the breed. I pulled Magic when he was 5yrs old for health reasons. So they know this, they know my standards. By the time we had finished our two hours around the show ground, Dara had met about 100 ppl, and my card was handed out to six pretty interested folks. I had one potential puppy buyer who stayed on my list for *three* years, as he was waiting for a pup from Magic my male. Alas as you know I retired him from breeding, and needed to let that faithfull man go; how-ever I sent him with high recommendations to a breeder friend with an interesting litter on the ground. In two weeks time she goes for her first TT - Temperament evaluation Test, and will meet a whole lot more folks. In this way, in the way I prefer, I get to educate the public about my breed, let them see my up and coming gal, let them know the health tests that she will need to pass first before breeding, my plans on her showing and training. These folks, get to meet her, put their hands on her, see her move (as a puppy of course). I tell them what shows we are likely to be in etc. I as a breeder also get to see how they interact with dogs, and get a prelim assessment of their experience with dogs. I don't have a Website, I guess maybe I should have, but have not got there yet. I don't know how to monitor my website so that it doesn't show up on less than savoury sites. But I do have full puppy educational packets, full questionnaires, full documentation that is able to be independently found. I do support my puppy buyers over their dogs lifetime. Anyhoo I ramble on. Soon time for some grooming

| Pups. Pup palace Wow, does not look like a good breeder to me. What a selection of adult (breeder dogs?) she shows in her pics! The Chocolate dog looks awfully weird, but that may be what the color looks like??? I like the 'owner, operator' bit…what is this... a car wash business? When was LP a 'cosmetics' issue??? I hope you are able to find a pup from a better breeder. It is great that you are researching this so well, you will be rewarded! Last edited by dottiesyrky; 09-14-2014 at 11:47 AM. |

| I know some have referred to the ytca and akc breeder referrals.....you should check those out. I know in PA there are tons of puppy breeders....It's very hard because there are lots of dishonest greedy people. But these folks around here know what they are talking about! I have learned so much as a first time yorkie owner! Last edited by chickensmith; 09-14-2014 at 12:40 PM. Reason: grammar |
