| How can I potty train my 8-month old Yorkie? So apparently when I got our little baby in March I assumed that she would pick up on potty training as fast as the breed of dogs I'd grown up with - poodles. Then I learned that terriers are notoriously hard to potty train. Mine is no exception. She does go outside about 80% of the time, but she still has at least one "accident" a few times a week and I will take her outside, coax her to go potty, and she will not relieve herself. After several frustrating minutes, I bring her back in knowing that she will purposely pee on the carpet upstairs of our new home. This is so frustrating. I think we have spoiled her too much - she sleeps in our bed and wouldn't accept me crating her at this point. Is it too late to go back to the basics? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT . I'm not the best potty trainer, but I'm sure others will chime in. In the meantime, be sure you go to our General Training section - in that section there are some stickied threads that are just for potty training...def read those!!

YT Addict | My yorky boy 5 months old was stubborn. First three weeks he went in his diaper no matter how long we would sit outside. He had a long leash but all he wanted to do is play. Then i started taking him for about a block walk and he went each time i fussed over him saying good boy potty. To teach him what that word ment. Today he went outside all three times something else i did was write when he seemed to go. Morning and night was easy and regular. If he dont go out when i take him i put the diaper belt on him. Hopefull he will learn now to let me just take him to back and go. But he expects me to take him for a walk. Even sits down and wont go into the yard if i dont walk him . Little buggar |

If not, here are some great tips Dog Toilet Training | Think Outside the (litter) Box if your dog insists on sometimes going in the house. For my Jaz, I leave this as an option for her. She hates the rain and wet grass. God forbid her paws get wet!!!! Best of luck with your little guy. I'm sure he will come around. As my name here implies, I've been talking to people about this for years, and every dog is different. Of course, Yorkies are the smartest, and cutest, and most lovable
