Worried about having my yorkie on my bed :(

Hi, I would be so grateful for advice. Roman is my first yorkie he is 6mths old and 6lbs (but he looks real small!) He was pad trained and now goes outside to toilet. At night he sleeps in his pen in my bedroom and waits to pee pee in the morning. I really want him on my bed to sleep but am real worried if he has accident and falls off, please tell me how I can have him with me.
I even have had a ramp built along the side of my bed for him

I'm terrified of squashing my yorkie or knocking her off the bed so I leave her crate open but she still sleeps in it and we like kinda having our own sleeping space but her crate is only two feet max away from me.

My yorkie sleeps with me. I have steps for her so she can and go as she pleases. Also depending on the size of your bed, it may be you who falls off. My last yorkie was only 3lbs but she took over the whole bed .

Many times i would find myself on the edge of the bed because she like to sleep right up under me. And as a member of the spoiled rotten club, I was not allowed to change my position so that she wouldn't be disturb.

I never worried about squashing her because if I rolled over on her should be sure to let me know or she would move so no worries there. What's really weird is even in my sleep I was unconsciously aware that she was in the bed. I guess it is something that develops over time.

My 3 1/2 pound Yorkie sleeps with me. She has stairs up the side of the bed. I move around a lot during the night and she just moves when I do. No problems

My little 3 pounder, Billi sleeps with her dad and I. She has ever since we felt she was fully potty trained. Since we have ramps for her, she can get down from the bed on her own and go potty on her patch and get food/water when she wants. It's actually really satisfying to hear her get up in the middle of the night and take herself to the potty.

As for her falling off the bed... Nah, I wouldn't worry about that. It really depends on where they prefer to sleep anyway. If they're by your feet, have them sleep in between you and your spouse. Sometime's she'll wiggle up behind my back and I can feel her dad roll over and so I'll move so she'll go with me. She usually moves on her own anyway, but it's still strange how aware we always are of her when she's with us.

Idk, it's just something you'll both get used to and you'll find that they're sturdier and fully capable of moving themselves out of the way if you do move around in your sleep a lot. I'd try it out a couple nights and see how you both like it. You never know, maybe he'll prefer to sleep elsewhere anyway.

My boy is huge so I'm not worried about smashing him at all lol but when I dogsit a little 4lb yorkie, he snuggled up next to me and knew when to move etc.

He is fine to sleep with you he wont have accidents on the bed they wont go where they sleep and he wont fall off but he may jump off. Youll know where he is and wont push him off as someone else said he may push you off the bed becomes theirs they take it over and allow you to sleep with them

Can you put a pad in the room and teach him how to get down and use it if he needs to?

My pup sleeps as close to me as she can get, usually under the covers in my arm pit. It's the best feeling in the world

chester has slept with me from day one, no problems, he has s a stool to get off and on the bed, I would be lonely if he wasn't there

My Phoebe always sleeps with me. She has stairs to get up & down if she needs to, but she usually doesn't. I am a VERY restless sleeper, so she usually sleeps on the pillow above my DH's head. I always wish she would cuddle with me but she knows better lol.

Usually all my dogs are in their crates at bedtime, but sometimes they have the odd night with us. It gets a bit crowded with 2 irish setters, 1 17lbs teapot yorkie and her 6 month old baby of 4+ lbs. I am usually left hanging off the edge of the bed. The little one has no trouble at all fitting in...its the humans that have a sleepless night whilst the dogs are sprawled out snoring their heads off...

Lola slept in a crate in our room for about 6 months but my husband wanted her in bed with us. She is a sound sleeper and up until recently hardly every moved, she would sleep at the bottom of the bed between our legs, but since she likes her own bed I would put one of her small beds on our bed and she would sleep in that. I move around a lot and I felt this was safer. Lately she has been moving around and sleeps between us, so now I made a pillow about half the size of mine which goes between our pillows and she rests her head on that like a person does. I actually find it safer for her up there instead of at the foot.

We spend weekends on our boat and that bed is smaller plus it's wider at the top than at the bottom. Plus there is drop off at the bottom so if she sleeps at the foot I am very afraid if I were to push her off while I was sleeping she could easily get hurt. So now I make sure she is up between our pillows with another small bed. LOL I have taken to sleeping at a slant to make sure she has room between us. I often wish we never started letting her sleep on the bed, I think it is safer and both of us would sleep better if we had our own space.

In regards to steps to help your pup to get on the bed, using them was not be a good idea for me. Lola does not have to potty during the night, so there was no reason for her to get off the bed and she never did. It was easy, I would put her on when I went to bed and lift her down in the morning, that was until we got the steps. Well after I taught her to use the steps the bed was no longer just a place to sleep, it became her play ground. She started running up and down at will and soon started bypassing the stairs and jumping off the bed. I would sometimes find her walking around my nightstand or up on the bed in the middle of the day with a wet chew toy. Anything I laid on my bed was hers to rummage through. If she was not done playing when it was time for bed after the lights went off she would jump back down and bring a toy up, which she would then roll off the bed only to jump back down to get it. Besides being annoyed by this night time activity having her jump off our high bed was not a good idea. So in less than a month the steps got removed and after about a week of her jumping down but not being able to get back up she finally just stayed on the bed and things returned to normal and LOL peace was restored to the land

Same here, though I close her crate because I don't want her to wander over to the floor to sleep and get tripped over at 3AM.

Might look up beside dog beds, saw pics of this one and I would love to be able to get my hands on one but it may be very expensive (or maybe even build one for less).
