| 8 month old walks and pees? My precious little Tink... She is a doll and a lovebug. This potty training has me on my knees begging GOD to help me! Seriously. I bought her from a breeder who had already started her on potty pads. She is very tiny. I got her from the breeder when she was 4 1/2 months old and she was only a pound. She is healthy, eats well. But she will pee right next to her pee pad, sometimes on it, on the floor, on the carpet, on the couch if that is where she gets the urge. And now, the last couple weeks, she will be walking and leave a trail of urine!!! Could this be a sign of a bladder problem? I grab her as soon as I see her starting to urinate or poop and put her on the potty pad, but it hasn't helped at all. And now, I am thinking I never should have listened to the breeder when she said she was too small to potty outside. She said the winter months would be impossible and it would just confuse her. Now I am confused and so flustered. And poor Tink, I am sure she is too. I need advice from the experts here. Please.

| I think your first step should be to the vet to check for a bladder infection. Oops sorry, you said experts. I'm not an expert IMHO

| I am afraid I too am no expert but it sounds to me like she needs to be seen by a vet for a bladder problem. If she is just walking and peeing as she walks it sounds as though it is not a conscious decision that she is making to go potty but loss of control of her bladder. Best wishes for you and your so tiny one. But the breeder is right that she is much too tiny to go outside to potty. I have a 3.5 lb Yorkie who potties in a potty box for the same reason. The weather can be bad for many reasons for such a tiny one to go out. It could be raining so hard and lightning and cold and all kinds of bad weather that even a bigger dog might not be too thrilled to have to go out in.

| Next week? I'm sorry but if she were my pup I wouldn't want to wait a week with the possibility of an infection becoming worse. Please call them back and ask if she can be seen sooner because you are afraid she may have an bladder infection. If not ask to speak to the vet.

| Poor pup and poor you! I can imagine how frustrating this is, but I agree with others- she needs to be seen by a vet, and a lot sooner than next week. She could be in pain or uncomfortable and you'd want her to feel better sooner, I'm sure! Hope she gets this potty thing down soon!!

| As little as she is she could go down real fast if she has an infection or some other problem. I hope you won't wait and get her in as soon as possible for her sake. That is so very tiny. Please let us know how things come out for you and her. Thanks

| I already called earlier and got her in tomorrow! I told them if they couldn't get her in sooner I was taking her elsewhere. I will post tomorrow when I find out what is going on. Thank you for all your advice!

| I'll start off by saying I'm not an expert however, I do agree with the others that something else may be going on with your little one. When I got Remy he was 4 months old and he was 1lb 6 oz so he was little too. As we all know, potty training seems to take a little longer with certain dogs. Remy's breeder had started him with the potty pads too but in the beginning he was hit or miss with the pads. More so, peeing 1/2 on the pad and 1/2 off. Can I ask how much does she weigh now? Do you use a command like "Go Potty" when you put her on the pads so she can eventually link the two together? Do you keep the pads in the same spot at all times? I have a pad in my family room and in my office. Remy is strictly pad trained and I made a mistake the other day by forgetting to put down a replacement pad in my office where there is always one and he peed right on the floor where the pad should have been. They are such a creature of habit. I hope nothing is wrong with Tink and that she is just taking a little longer to be potty trained.

| Yeah I am also having a hard time potty pad training Dutch. So we have gone back to training camp. She does potty outside but when I am at work all day, I don't want her to have to hold it all day (or I come home to a mess). What I've been doing is everytime she goes outside to potty, I say potty while she is pottying. After she pottys, I praise and give her a treat. My hope is that when I place her on her potty pad and say potty she will actually potty. I am hoping she associates the treat with pottying when I say potty...so far it is not working. She is such a stubborn little stinker. She just holds it until we get outside. So until the light bulb comes on....she is basically tethered. She has very little freedom to roam around the house. She only gets an hour or two of roaming after she has potty than it's back to being tethered. Right now we have a battle of wills going on. My last yorkie took a year to fully potty pad trained her so if Dutch is thinking I am going to just give up, she has another thing coming. |

| They couldn't get a urine sample from her so they just put her on antibiotics two times a day until her surgery, which is tomorrow. (She is getting spayed) The vet is going to look at her bladder etc and see if she sees anything out of the ordinary while she is in there. Praying everything goes ok with my precious little Tink tomorrow. The potty pad training is just such a nightmare. She will pee next to the pad, on it, off it. She is still walking and peeing and leaving a long trail at least once a night. She will usually poop on her pad. But now she is jumping and playing with it. I am getting so frustrated. I know she is a baby, but it is so hard.

| Regarding the pooping... My Annie came from a BYB (at 4.5 months old & 3 pounds) who was keeping her in a rabbit hutch. I really had a tough time breaking her to go on a potty pad. Because of being caged, she wanted to eat it! I spend a month jumping up everytime she headed for the pad and if she pooped, I threw a "poopy" party and gave her a favorite treat! I made sure I picked it up and threw it in the toilet right away so she couldn't play with it. She now comes and looks at me and whines for me to come "look see" what she did and give her a treat! It took about 2 months to get to this point and I know I have to pay attention all the time. One time I didn't pay attention and go see fast enough and she brought it to me and dropped it at my feet! Needless to say I pay attention now! |

| The vet decided to keep her on antibiotics for one more week and reschedule her spay surgery until Sept 25th. I haven't noticed much change so I am not convinced it is an infection. But we will see. Working with her diligently and loving her to pieces!!!
