| New harness for 5 pound pup I really like the harness I have for Lexi, but she has recently started coughing every time we go for a walk. She pulls when walking which we have been working on, but with the possibility of CT (she coughs at other times too) I don't want to take any chances. She never coughed while walking before, but has just started to. I realized that the top part of the harness that goes on her chest does push against the lower part of her neck when she pulls. Does anyone know of a good (not too expensive) harness that wont press against any part of the neck? I would hate to have to stop giving her walks, but right now I don't want to make her trachea worse with the coughing. Thanks! |

| Well I really love the Buddy Belt, but it is a little pricy and Billi does cough when she's wearing it if she's excited and starts pulling. I can't decide if it's the harness, since it sits so low on her chest, or if she's coughing from excitement, but she only does it when the harness is on, so who knows... Kristen/Maximo would be a great person to talk to about Buddy Belts. Otherwise I'd look into regular step-in harnesses- they shouldn't put pressure on the trachea.

| Harnesses What works for ours with CT and other breathing issues, is the step in harness....BUT we attach the leash to the front strap that goes between the legs. It works like the "Easy Walk" collar this way. I use that one on my larger dogs with awesome results (no pulling) but have yet to see if they make one small enough for our 3.5 lb. yorkie. Hope it works for your pup as well!!! I just looked up the Buddy Belt after reading above response and think that one looks great! Last edited by Kendra Jeanne; 08-28-2014 at 11:30 AM. |

| harnesses There is also the "Gentle Leader" which if they make it small enough would give no pull on trachea or chest at all. They work wonders for pullers also. I have not tried that one on my yorkie, but my other two dogs pretty much hate it but still accept it if going on a walk. Not sure if they dislike the control it gives the walker or if it's uncomfortable across their muzzle. I prefer to use this one on my large dog when I walk them alone since it really gives me better control when he gets overexcited as we pass certain dogs. |
