| New bad habit. Any Advice? Mellie started doing this last week & now Mac is doing it also. They will get a mouthful of food from their bowls in the kitchen, then proceed to walk into the living room and drop it out on my new rug and then eat it there. I am one of those people who don't allow food anywhere except the kitchen so even dry kibble drives me nuts. They are also doing this with the wet food treat. I have yelled at them. They just give me the what, who me look and carry on. I put up the baby gate then they decided they would wait to eat plus my resident clutz (aka me) keeps falling over the gate. Any suggestions on why the decided to eat this way or how to stop it.

| I don't think this is unusual. Loki does this. My friend's dogs do this. I wish I could tell you why! Loki also prefers to eat his food off of the floor rather than out of a bowl. He's a goof. Anyway, do they have crates? Loki will ignore his food if I set it on the floor, but if I put him in his crate with his food bowl he will usually eat. If he ignores it while in his crate I just decide he isn't hungry and try again later. At least the mess is confined!

| My pups do the same thing - not so much with treats but when they're eating they will carry the food into the family room and eat it there I would just suggest trying to praise them when they stay in the kitchen. Sit in the living room when he/she is eating and if they try to come into the living room/carpeted area, just turn them around and put them back at their bowl. Good luck!

| Sorry I have no idea why but my mom's yorkie rocky does the same thing. He also pulls the food out of his bowl in the kitchen and picks only the colorful pieces that are softer for him to eat. The brown pieces just sit there till someone cleans it up, or his gets really hungry. - My Lucy has started getting a piece and bringing it in the living room to eat but she only gets one piece at a time. I'm sure she will be bring mouths full soon |

| Both of mine do this and they always have,It must be another one of those yorkie things lol.Lady will go back and forth from the bowl to her rug until shes full and although Jess does it less, she still likes to carry food around the house and eat it somewhere different. They do it with treats too. |

| My poodle did that and it drove me nuts. Tatum never started it as a puppy and I was really glad. Now, I've noticed that she does it every once in a while - carries each mouthful to an area rug in the breakfast room. At first when I just had regular ceramic dog bowls, she would insist on pawing at the bowl until it tipped and spilled the food out - then she would eat it. She got really mad when I bought new bowls that are ceramic non-tip ones. Got her on that one! But the funniest thing with her is that if I'm sitting on the couch (usually working on my cross stitch), she'll go eat and then jump up on the back of the couch and come over and burp and start kissing me tons and tons. Kinda gross!

| Maddie doesn't do that...just once in a while, but my sister's yorkie whom I used to babysit often, always took a piece of food and then went and sat in the livingroom to eat it. Who knows why they do it...they are so funny!

| OK what if you bought a cheap little rug and put their food bowls on the rug? They would still do it, but maybe they would make a mess on their own rug?

| Stewie does this when I'm not in the room w/ him while he's eating. He wants me to watch him eat. Maybe it's because he's afraid of choking.

| Sully does this too.....just not all the way across the room. Maybe a half of a foot to a foot away from his bowl. Weird, I know? I am like, dude, what's a matter with your bowl, eh?
