vet visit - teeth and cough Today I took Lexi to the vet to get a couple things checked out. Kinda knew what to expect and turned out a little better than I thought. Teeth - Lexi has an underbite that ended up causing one lower canine tooth to not set right and now is pushing on the inside of her upper incisor. The incisor is starting to angle outward. Thought we would have to be referred to a vet dentist and she did mention that, but she said she can remove the top incisor and hopefully that will give the canine room to grow and angle outward like it's supposed to. Glad I got it checked when I did, she just had her baby canine pulled last month. If not fixed now the canine would continue to be pushed toward the roof of her mouth and cause a lot more trouble! Cough - Lexi will sometimes cough after drinking water and I finally got it on video to show the vet. She was able to get her to cough by rubbing her throat, but she said she had to work hard to get her to. She said it could be tracheal, but since it does not happen after vigorous exercise she is not concerned right now. It also could be from drinking fast, she has seen cases of that before. She told me that when she puts her under and insert the tube she will look and see if there is anything in her trachea she can see from the outside. She also said there is a possibility it could turn out more of a problem in the future, but we would have to wait and see. Funny thing is, when I got home I was talking to my neighbors about our vet visit and when I told them about the coughing after drinking, she said their dog does the same thing and has done it since he was a puppy (he is 12 years old now). She said it never got any worse. That made be feel a little more optimistic. I have to also thank this forum. I have caught a lot of things early on with Lexi thanks to the info and advice I have received on here! This site has been a life saver!

I am glad for all the good news you got about Lexi today with her tooth and her cough. Thanks for letting us know how things went with the vet and hopefully it will be a minor cough problem like your neighbor talked about with her dog. It is so good to know you got a lot of helpful advice from the people on the forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here I will say. I have learned some things myself.

Thank you everyone. She gets the tooth pulled next Tuesday. Hopefully this will work. Glad I noticed it and got it checked as early as I did. I am a firm believer in getting even the little things checked out because usually big things start out as small things. I would rather get it checked/fixed before it turns into something bigger!
