| free feeding with 2 pups I have decided to go back to free feeding Lexi (I think I have changed my mind on this a million times along with what to feed). Anyway, with the new puppy coming the end of this month I am wondering how I should go about feeding them. The puppy will be coming with a different food, but I will gradually switch him over to BB that I feed Lexi. Those who free feed with more than one.... do you let them eat out of the same bowl, or have separate bowls for them. And if separate, was it hard to get them to learn that they have their own bowl? Also, with water, do they just use the same bowl? Thanks in advance! |

| I free feed both of mine. The problem I have is that my pup wants to eat the adult food and my 12 yr old girl Schnauzer wants to eat the puppy chow. I feed them both BB (BB puppy and BB adult)and also mix a little Nutro puppy in with the BB puppy(It's much smaller kibble). My girl gained 2 lbs in about 4 wks getting into the puppy chow so I now leave the puppy's bowl in his ex-pen. He jumps in of out during the day but the 12yr old won't go in there. He still eats out of her bowl when he happens to be in near it. They both drink out of her bowl when he is out of the ex-pen. |

| All of mine that free feed are on the same diet, so they all eat when they want, out of the same bowl. Water is also in the same bowl. I have ONE female that thinks it is her duty to keep everyone away from the food during the day, and if she sees anyone going to grab a bite to eat, she will rush to run the away, so she spends most of her free time in my lap or in my bedroom on my bed. |

Right now Lexi is still on the puppy formula, but I can definitely see that being a problem when she starts on the adult. Thank, I didn't even think of that! Guess I will have to figure that out when the time comes. Quote:
Thanks for the info. So, do you not really worry about how much they are eating since they all eat out of the same bowl? I'm not too worried about Lexi overeating, but I always measure out how much I put in the bowl. | ||

| I free feed my 3 out of one food & one water bowl. I make sure the bowl is always full & I've never had any weight problems.

| Thanks for the response. I think once I switch the new pup over to the same food I will try out of the same bowl and see how Lexi responds to that. At least until I switch over Lexi to the adult formula and then I will have to figure something out! |

| All 3 of mine eat & drink out of the same bowl. I use to have seperate food bowls, but they would eat all the food out of one bowl before moving on to the other so I just keep 1 bowl down. They all share very well, it's cute to see one of them grumble when another is hogging the bowl. All we have to say is, You guys need to share, and the "offender" usually backs away.
