| Best size playmate So I've decided to start looking for a new pup, but this time a rescue and not necessarily a yorkie. My Lexi is 7 months and 4.4 lbs and may get to her expected 5 lbs. Just trying to decide how big is too big for a playmate. I was thinking not over 10 lbs. |

| Magnus is 15.5 lbs and Zoey's 5.5 lbs. I haven't had any problems. And if I were to point out to a bully, it'd be Zoey. Magnus lets her get away with almost anything. But he will let her know who the real boss is between the two if she oversteps her boundaries. IMHO, I think it'd be better to look at the personality of the dog than size. If both are submissive, no problem! But if Lexi's more on the dominant side, it'd be easier for them to get along if the new pup was submissive. |

YT 1000 Club Member | My little Navi (newest member) at about 7 lbs, holds her own VERY well in the Pack. She and my Jr. Male Ichabod are rough and tumble as any, and Ickey's superior weight and size haven't made any difference (except for Tug-O-War). I think it's a traction problem

| Thanks.... Just don't want to make Lexi feel too intimidated if I bring in a pup way bigger than her, but I agree that personality is definitely important. I know it may take me a while to find the perfect match. I don't want to rush into buying another dog, and I'm not in a big hurry. |

| I agree personality is the key. Our two get along great with our sons boxer, and recently we were at my sister-in-laws for a couple weeks vacation, they have a huge dog they rescued at the pound. Mind you Sydney is 12 years old and very laid back but all the dogs got along famously. We never left them unsupervised, but if anything Kyra was the most aggressive at times and she is a tiny girl. If looking at a larger dog I would research on their personality traits first. Best of luck finding a playmate for your little one.

| I'm not sure I'm in the right room here.....but I'm trying to find out how do Yorkies do with cats? I'm thinking of getting a cat although, my Ragdoll is 9 lbs and she's, lets say, finicky and likes attention from especially since her 1/2 sister just died suddenly about 5 months ago. I'm thinking I want a dog now but a small dog! any input would be appreciated. Thank you. |

| I think personality is important but size too I think if you stay with similar size they will be more apt to play together. Mine are 7 and 14 lbs and never play together

YT 500 Club Member | Well I have a 10.5lbs maltese home and my Yorkie is about 7.5 and she's the boss. One thing about yorkies is they don't know they're small..they just want to play all the time. So I would be looking for a dog that could match their energy. |

| I almost think it depend on the dog more then the size although I would stay with a small sized dog. My yorkies is 17/18 pounds and is very calm and kind with tiny ones.

| I'm currently going through this sort of thing. I have two older Jack Russells (one a little over 12 and the other about 6-7, both are a little hefty in weight). I had gotten my baby yorkie last week and at first she seemed to want to play and the other two would just back away from her, not knowing what to do or just didn't want her to bother them. My oldest girl seem to show more interest and right now she has gotten to where she'll check on her and occasionally play with her (and sometimes doesn't want to be bothered lol) the other girl doesn't seem interested in her at all currently, though I'm hoping that'll change. So yea personality is a big thing. I was counting on the older one to kick in her maternal instinct & help teach her and she has (though she's fixed and never had a pup, let alone really seen one but has show strong interest before in mothering). Sometimes they may surprise you, but it's important to bring them together a bit slowly and watch how they react to see when it's alright to let them be around together.
