| First dental This morning we saw the vet and Huey has his first dental (he's 5 1/2) scheduled for in the morning(July 15). He said (when I was seeking reassurance) that they do bunches of dentals on little dogs so are well versed in sedating ones Huey's size. He said that most dentals are done on little guys, since big dogs don't have the issues that little ones do. He said Huey's teeth look really good and congratulated me on my proactiveness with his dental care. Huey has 2 baby teeth that never were replaced by permanent teeth (you can see them in the "before" pics, right behind the upper canines) and said normally they would remove any remaning deciduous teeth, but since these were never replaced, the plan is to just clean them up. He also said that they may eventually come out anyway. He thought that I should post a video of Huey brushing his own teeth on the Vet office web site when I told him that Huey brushed daily; that I didn't have to do it So, we have to be at the vet before 9am tomorrow and will be picking him up late afternoon. I'm supposed to work tomorrow night, but hubby will be home. Give us some good, positive thoughts in the morning for an uneventful procedure.

| He will do just fine. My Azrael goes in for teeth cleaning in the morning for the second time in a year and I brush their teeth every night. Some are just pre-disposed to have bad teeth. My Zada who passed away a couple months ago was 9 and never had to have her teeth cleaned. Keep up the brushing though, it really cuts down on having this done.

| I'm sure he is going to do great! I'm on my way to pick up Bogey right now. He just had a dental today and is already done and ready to come home. He did lose one tooth but that's pretty good for a 7 yr old! Good luck tomorrow

| They look great for his age! My dog Barney had his first dental at age 11.5 and had teeth that were very clean most of his life. Since then, he had another dental two months ago and he's almost 14. Some dogs have better genetics than others. My Winston is only 3 and he's going for his 3rd dental later this month, builds up tartar like a cement truck is pouring it on, and he has his incisors at risk of future loss. I brush but he still has heavy calculus. Sigh. Best wishes for your baby.

| No particular brand, but I've found that the really, really hard plastic el'cheapos are the best. Nice, soft brushes are destroyed within hours. He can't pull the bristles out of the really hard ones, so I throw them away when he has worn the bristles down to half the original length. He goes through maybe one a week.

| So it is after 10pm and Huey finally ate his breakfast I put out at 7 this morning. I was worried he wouldn't eat anything before I have to make him npo at midnight for his procedure in the morning. Obviously, going without breakfast doesn't phase him a bit, but I would have hated for him to not eat at all today (except a few treats) and then go until tomorrow night before getting anything , especially since his mouth may be a little sore after getting his teeth cleaned. He's not a big eater; never has been (unless it's on a people plate and one of his people is eating it) but if he's anything like me, not being allowed something makes you want it.

| Best wishes for Huey for all to go smoothly tomorrow. He has great looking teeth, so he will be a little more perfect. He does nice work keeping his teeth clean.

| Thanks. I tell him he's a good boy, but he only cares that I keep his toothbrush stock up and his favorite toothpaste avaliable. Lol

| Will be thinking about Huey today. Bogey said to tell him be brave and looks cute. The girls at the vet will give him extra love.

| He's home. He did fine. Since he's still a little stunned from the anesthesia, I haven't seen his teeth yet. Will post after pics later. Thanks for the good thoughts today!
