| Bringing home our Yorkie! We are going to be bringing home our yorkie tomorrow! I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. I have had cats, kittens, and a dog before, but NEVER a puppy (or yorkie). I hope everything goes ok. We have to drive 3 hours to pick him up and then 3 hours back home with him. I think we have everything ready for him at home. But so not sure of what to expect. Any suggestions for anything would be helpful. Thanks nervous new yorkie mommy! |

| I just recently picked up my Lily. She was my first puppy so I know how you feel! Make sure you bring a blanket, puppy pad, water, and nutri cal for the trip home. I drove 2 1/2 hours to get Lily and 2 1/2 hours back. As far as home, food, puppy pads, brush, puppy shampoo, teething toys, bed, crate, play yard or xpen, etc. I also got a stuffed toy from the breeder that Lily slept with. It helped a lot! Make sure EVERYTHING is off the floor. Lily kept bringing stuff from under my couch. Lol. Make sure cords are put up. They chew chew chew! Also don't forget to make your first vet appointment for shots and a checkup. How old is your new baby? I was sooooo excited the day I got Lily! Can't wait to see pictures. Congrats!

| Congrats! I, myself, have been waiting on the breeder to contact me but have been trying to get everything ready incase they'll let me adopt. So it's good to see some suggestions on what to bring with me ^^ Hadn't thought of puppy pads since I planned to let them do their thing before driving, but now thinking on it, it might not be a bad idea.

| Congratulations. It can be a little scary having a little Yorkie for the first time, and the most important thing is to keep him safe and fed every few hours. He should not go outside on the ground until all his vaccinations are complete, as he could get parvo which is deadly. Make sure everyone in the house is aware of things that are toxic to dogs (there are lists) including grapes, raisins, Xylitol in sugar free gum etc., macadamia nuts. and many plants. Puppies are wigglers and can wiggle right out of your arms and break a leg, so hold securely. Be careful not to let him jump or fall off a bed or furniture. Have a potty training plan in mind, and don't give him unsupervised freedom in the house until he is reliable. Clean up any "accidents" with an enzymatic cleaner or he will go back to the same spot and potty again. Here is a link with more info: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...w-parents.html Enjoy him, and share stories and pictures when you can.

YT Addict | Awh, you will be ready. I am nervous too I get mine in three days. I set up a small crate on my nightstand table next to my side of the bed so I can hear him if he wakes up. A clock that makes a ticking sound is good to have near sounds like mama heartbeat. You probably won't get much sleep the first couple of days, expect that. If they wimper stick your fingers in so they know you are right there, and take out of crate to potty if they need it. Don't talk, play just potty business then put them right back in. Good luck, pictures please... |
