| people comments at petco Max and I were in a Petco yesterday getting a new harness..This lady was nice to say how cute he was but then she added "he is sure tall for his age" I know he is a little leggy but it still hurt my feelings. He also looks tall because he is slim. Body is 9 in, legs are 8 x1/2 , he weights 4.5 lbs. Not a bit skinny..Just thought I would vent some. I knew you all would understand |

| My last girl was a big girl, 17 lbs, she had long legs also, her body was slim, sleek and beautiful, ppl would ask what breed she was, when I would say yorkie, these non yorkie owners would say I never saw a yorkie that big, I would tell them she is a "standard size yorkie, " lol just like poodles, teacup, mini & standard. That shut them up. Ignore these ppl, Never let them hurt your feelings. My adopted Cody has a short body but his legs are a bit longer and he's a 12 lb boy. He doesn't look like a misfit lol. If you have him groomed with a short hair cut, have them leave more hair on his legs, this will take away the long leg appearance. I believe it's the schnauzer hair cut. You can google yorkie hair styles.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Aw, try not to take it personally...maybe she even meant it as a compliment, ya know? I don't see saying he is tall as a cut down, per se. Your kiddo is absolutely adorable, no matter if he's tall, short, or medium !

| I know how these comments hurt. My vet said that Zoey was a little long when I took her in for her first visit as a pup. After almost five years I still remember that comment as if it were yesterday. In my heart I know she does not have a cobby build but I think she is perfect.

| Everyone thinks there experts. Embrace what makes your baby unique. Mine is a larger yorkie with floppy ears. I think she is the cutest thing in the world and perfect but when people ask what she is I just say a larger yorkie with a smile not giving them a chance to really say something about her size. I have never really gotten rude comments before but I try to brush things off. Me and Callie wish we had long legs but we are short and squatty

YT 1000 Club Member | People always have opinions and sometimes think they know everything about a particular breed. For every person who thinks he's tall another will think he's short or perfectly proportioned. I just smile, shrug it off, and if they're rude I stare at them blankly lol. |

People need to remember they are like our children. It's like saying your son is cute but he needs his ears fixed.

| You know yorkies aren't even supposed to have short legs. They are supposed to be squares. Back length and leg length the same. But everyone wants a flat faced short leg yorkie nowadays.

| People are just not considerate or they have some strange idea of what a Yorkie should look like. I had someone suggest to me about a month ago that I should "crop" Sophie Kates ear so they would stand up all the way (her tips flop ove). I was like what the heck, she is six years old and even if she was 6 minutes old I would not have her ears cropped. I am sure you little Yorkie is perfect.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I would probable say yes he is tall because God created him that way and I am so proud of the way he looks! Turn a negative into a positive and never let someone who says something stupid or unkind take your joy away! Every animal is beautiful in God's eyes and I am sure your Yorkie is adorable! YT 2000 Club Donating Member | One of the most frequent dealings breeder/exhibitors need to handle, is a member of the public who gladly shows us their dog, and asks for our opinion of their beloved. It might surprise you to know, that this comes up at breed clubs every now and again, along with options and phraseology to use. There is always something kind and true to be said about their beloved. You find it and say it, simple as that. Some folks like to think that their gal or male could have been a show dog. That is pretty rare to find a pet that might have qualified as a show dog. There are a very very few pet owners who truly want to understand "why" their dog did not pass the grade for show quality. For these folks I spend a lot of time showing and explaining "why" not. I have spent an hour or more with them, showing angulations, explaining why the coat is less than preferred, looking at the gait, examining bite, ear-set et al, eye color, coat color, temperament, the list is almost endless. This is for the breed that I breed, whose standard is quite detailed, much more so than the Yorkie Standard.

| I'd take it as a neutral comment, your baby is perfect. Before Lola I had 2 poodles, one was very tall and thin (think greyhound) and the other was very short and sturdy (think bull dog). The funny thing is they were littermates. I prefer the tall and thin look, although my poodle was a bit extreme. Lola is somewhere between the two. She's much closer to breed standard than most of the yorkies I see locally and a lot of people question her height and other aspects of her look and ask what breed she is. I try not to take their comments personally. Quote:
