| What is wrong with people! Yesterday for the 1000th time in 4yrs,my neighbor's dog ended up at my house for the day. No collar,no tag,no proof of ownership,I just happen to know who she belongs to. This is an unkept, chi female. She barks all of the time and sometimes the bark sounds like it is coming from somewhere different, that is how I can tell that she is out. I left the lady a note at her house. When my neighbor finally came to get Sarah (the dog). I told her AGAIN that the dog needs identification. She tells me that she is chipped, I asked with who and she says what do you mean. So I explained how the chip works. I also told her that if she is picked up,it will be a $200 ticket from our township and she will have to pay the city to get her dog out of the pound. Atleast with a tag the neighbors that find her over and over again will be able to call and that is less hassle. I also told her that she and her dog had been mentioned by name on the online neighborhood watch. Pretty much scared her to find out that she was the subject of discussion. Maybe it scared her enough to keep the dog safe. The dog has been to my house so many times over the years that she just lays in the pen and waits. Used to she barked from my backporch as well. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Some ppl are just irresponsible. Is it a Texas thing cause I never experienced this in Tennessee (I'm in Fort Hood and my neighbors husky mix always got out). It seems to me she kinda doesn't want her chi, if she did this wouldn't repeatedly happen. I know our pets sometimes can slip away from us but owners should have at least have some type of identification whether it's id tags, microchip, or tattoo. I don't believe for one second her dog actually has a microchip. She now is worried because the neighborhood has been alerted to her and her dog and ppl are talking? She should have been worried the first time her chi got out. Not everyone is nice and will hold the dog until the owner gets home. Last edited by ColesMommy01; 06-24-2014 at 05:19 AM. |

| Nope not a TX thang. I have 6 dogs, everybody wears collars, tags and the younger ones are chipped. They don't even go outside without a human to our fenced in yard. We have hawks and coyotes and I live in the city. Hopefully she will stay upset about the neighbors talking about her. I don't enjoy having her dog that Im not sure has had shots at my house around my babys. |

| My neighbors down the road had a Yorkie that always got out. She usually came to my house and say on my back deck or front porch until I would bring her home or the owners would send their kids to come get her. One morning she got out and never made it home. They have no idea what happened to her, we live in town and it was rush hour so anyone could have picked her up, but there is also a lot of wildlife next to and behind our houses, as well as a swamp. She was replaced a week or two later and this one rarely gets out. Lesson learned? |

| something like this happened to me with a pug in our neighborhood. the owner kept the dog on a tie out in an unfenced yard and he kept getting out. One time when I called the owner to say I had his pup he told me to retie it up!! he also told me that the dog was a PITA and it was for his daughter who had lost interest in him. I told him the next time the pug was loose for his own safety I was calling the pound and if he wanted him back he would have to pay the fine, this did not phase him and I figured he would probably not go to get him back. I called the pound then called a pug rescue group in the area who said they would keep in touch with the pound and pick it up if necessary. I found out the pug "went out the front door" with a family two days after the legal holding time passed. I like to think in this case my taking it to the pound resulted in a happier life for the little pug. I think instead of taking the dog in, you should let the pound take it, perhaps once the gal pays the fine it will teach her a good lesson or if she does not get the dog it will show how little she must care for the poor pup

| I find that people like the OP posted about rarely change, if their dog repeatedly gets out almost nothing will make these people take the right steps to keep it from happening. It's hard to believe but I have often felt the pound is a much better option for these unlucky dogs. In my old neighborhood there was a couple about 5 houses in from a very busy street. They had a sweet little doxie. At least twice a week I would drive past their house and the little pup would be in the road, I brought it to the front door multiple times, I talked to them about how much I almost hit it, twice they were not even in the house they were at a neighbors. These people were not trailer trash, they both were professionals with a nice home and good jobs, they were just careless and lazy. Of course the dog got hit by a car and died. So they got another doxie who I saw out in the street a few times. I ran into the gal at the mall one day after I moved, she said oh I am so excited to go home today because there will probably be puppies, I said WHAT then she told me how she thought the doxie was going to give birth that day. I said AND YOU LEFT HER ALONE she said well she had not planned to but her job called and asked if she could come into work!!! I asked her if she knew about the complications small dogs or any dog but especially small ones could have, she just seemed clueless and not worried. I had to stop talking to her because inside I had the greatest urge to reach out and slap her. I have never seen them again so I don't know what happened.

| I don't think that she is going to learn a lesson. She has another , fairly recent chi as well. It is to replace the one that was run over, right infront of my neighbor, when they both got out. As for the pound,,,,, the Dallas pound lowered their adoption fees last weekend. They adopted out over 100 animals and are still over crowded. The FtWorth pound is keeping most animals less than a week before PTD due to over crowding. I just watched an unaltered male chi, that I have never seen before, hike on my fence. Sigh, ya just can not fix STUPID |

YT 1000 Club Member | My (old) neighbors who had the husky mix added a Saint Bernard. A couple of months after the new addition I got a knock on my door asking if I would like a puppy. The Bernard and husky had mated . If someone chooses to have unaltered pets that's their prerogative as long as you're responsible, but they weren't. They moved a month ago and gave away their dogs because they decided they weren't dog ppl . U would have thought they figured that out with the husky. My gma always said a hard head makes a soft a$& and some ppl r in desperate need of a swift kick to the butt Last edited by ColesMommy01; 06-24-2014 at 07:49 AM. |

| I believe its necessary to have collar and tags when you go outside with your pet. I'm sorry not everyone things 3 steps ahead like that. You never know what can happen.

| This entire thread is EXACTLY why spay and neuter is so important for the overall good of the pet population. People in general are just irresponsible when it comes to ownership and responsibility. It seems we all know of these types of pet owners. Their are the ones that let their animals roam, tie them outside, breed, ignore their vetting need, decide they are not pet people and dump them or even worse. It's the reason that vets push to spay and neuter by 5 months before their first heat for females~~because the puppy is still a cute and loved, they are bring them in for vaccines and well visit. So they try to capture the opportunity to alter the animals before they begin breeding, roaming and never return for basic vetting. OK......sorry off my rant
