| Adding a 3rd dog Hey all, been a long time since I've been on here. My husband and I have two yorkies - Tobie 7 1/2 yrs and Ella 6 yrs old. They have a sister, Zoe who is actually Tobie's litter mate and all three have the same mom/dad. We've been told Tobie and Ella are a bonded pair. My ex and I attempted to rescue a yorkie and brought him home and ended up having to take him back after the weekend. Tobie is very laid back, deep sleeper, total lap dog and loves his daddy Ella is the very opposite, hyper, runs all over and light sleep, loves both her mommy and daddy. They both get a long very well together and rarely tussle with each other. They don't really play with toys and just enjoy human company. They also get along with their sis - Zoe who lives with Pop Pop and Mimi. Our friend's dog a yorkiepoo/terrier mix (6lbs) just had puppies and just want them to go to a good home. I am very interested in getting one and adding to our little family. We've also been actively trying to have a baby after experiencing two losses. My thought process is that if/when we have a baby, we can't just give them back. Tobie wasn't too excited about Ella when I brought her home but after a couple of weeks they adjusted to each other. Have any of you guys added a third dog successfully to a bonded pair? I know there will be additional vet bills, etc, but I think it will be easier to train the puppy with both ours already trained. They are both pad/yard trained and do very well. Would love some feedback to make the best decision. Thanks, Tonya |

| I personally think that if you are trying to have a baby, that a third dog is not the best idea. We have two yorkies and are doggy sitting my mom's yorkie (for 2 weeks now) and it really is a lot more work. Adding the third creates a whole different dynamic... I personally would never have three dogs, let alone three dogs and a baby. Too many dogs are given up because of new babies.

We have a new mom just put up a thread, needs to re-home due to new baby and can no longer give her beloved yorkie the attention it needs, and it's just one pup she has. I had two bonded pups aged 6 y/o and 3 y/o and bought in a third, it took a couple of months for the 2 older ones to accept the newbie, it's a lot of work 3 babies, but, I was not trying to get pregnant. Please rethink about getting a 3rd pup, if you got pregnant, had your baby and found 2 or 3 pups were to much to handle with a new born, it would be horrific to break up 2 bonded pups or 3 pups. Very few ppl will adopt a bonded pair. I know you love your lil pups, think about what they go through when they have to leave a family they have been with and loved for years, then placed with strangers, even tho the ppl that adopt will love them, they would never forget their first mommy and dad. Is that fair to these pups? JMO a 3rd not a good idea if you are looking to have a child.

| We have three dogs, ages 10, 5 and 3. They are all very bonded to each other and small in size so fairly easy for me to manage. But they're still a lot of work and two of them developed significant health issues that we didn't foresee and require a lot of support. My children are adults now but I never even thought about three dogs, let alone two when they were small. To help you make the right decision, it's important to Think about your lifestyle and what your habits are. Can you easily walk three at the same time? Do you like to go out a lot socially? Do you like to travel? Is your vehicle large enough to carry a baby and all their gear as well as three dogs? Do you have someone who could babysit three dogs if you want to go somewhere overnight or longer with just the family? Can you manage expenses with three if one or more gets sick and needs surgery etc? With two dogs, people are more willing to help. Three seems overwhelming for most in my experience. I hope this helps you a little bit and I wish you the best in making your decision |

Now, on to the positive. Rosie will be 7 years old in July. Mikki will be 4 years old here in June. The transition of the puppy was AMAZING. My girls did so well accepting her! When I brought Mikki home I had a hard time with Rosie. But this puppy was so easy. With the thought of a new baby coming I really honestly don't think I would get a puppy. You will have your hands full with a new baby AND a new puppy. I say enjoy your two and look forward to belong a new mommy.

My children are grown as well. That's why I got the puppy at this time. I knew we were ready.
