| Puppy attacks when dressing son My sweet little Lexi turns into a little monster when I try to dress my son. She will jump up on my son biting at the clothes and my hands. No commands work and when I try to grab her and put her down she will start growling and attacking my hand. Sometimes it's just easier to crate her when I am getting my son dressed, but I want her to understand that this in not okay so I don't have to crate her every time. Any advice for this? Thanks! |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | This is very odd behavior . . but if she is young its understandable on how she can take the movement of the clothes as play time and start to rustle with you. On the other hand the biting and growling is not something you want to let get out of hand. This type of behavior can go very wrong if it is not taken care of a.s.a.p. Crating is good but only if you can crate her before you get your sons clothing out which signals play time. It might be a better solution to stop the behavior altogether. It might be better if you don't allow her on the bed at all when you are dressing your son. It will make it easier for her to not associate dressing with play time. Try putting her lead on and tying her to the door knob and training her to sit and stay and be in a calm state of mind while you are dressing your son. Give her a toy or chew treat of some sort to concentrate on instead of her being so concerned with what you are doing. It may be necessary to even bribe her with a few treats now and than to get her attention. I worry that if she is allowed to remain on the same area when you are dressing your son she could accidently bite him instead. Which would bring a whole different sort of issues into play so its best to teach her that she can not be on the bed or wherever you dress your son when doing so. Also if you do leash her sometimes ignoring the behavior is best .. if she starts to bark and get frustrated and she will. If you stop what you are doing in order to pet or sooth her reaction it will only cause more problems. As long as she isn't being hurt she will be fine. Your main concern must be yours and your sons safety!

| Thanks for the tips. It's like she thinks of attacking clothes as a game. Every time she is in my room or my sons she tries to get clothes out of the hamper (especially socks). If she manages to get one, she darts out the room with it. She knows she is not supposed to do this. So when I dress my son, usually on the ground, she will start attacking the clothes. I will try out your suggestions. Thanks. |
