Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It's snake season again... One of my co-workers has had her Yorkie at the Vets since Thursday with a bite from a copperhead. Her bill is in excess of $2400 and whether or not they will be able to save his leg is still in question. Yesterday, one of my neighbors posted a picture of a copperhead in his driveway (shudder). Make sure you know what types of snakes live in your area. If you can, find out ahead of time what vets in your area stock anti-venom for any poisoners snakes that frequent your hood. I found out that the anti-venom for copperheads runs in excess of $700/vial and is only stocked by 1 vet in my area because of the cost.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | GREAT reminder. We have rattlers here in AZ, though I've only seen 1 in my 9 years here. Going to call my vet to make sure they carry the anti-venom.

| Very good reminder. I have seen only 1 copperhead in the 11 years that I have been back in Virginia. Teddy and I were walking, he was sniffing in the grass when I looked down and saw the baby copperhead. I yanked Teddy's leash and sent him flying. Then I took a closer look and realized the baby snake was dead. Whew! Snakes do not typically like manicured landscapes (fertilized lawns that have been treated with bug killer), although not guaranteed. Eliminate wood piles and water sources to help keep them out of your yard.

| I know this is not 100% and there are other dangers but poisonous snakes as wildlife is one reason I'm a city dweller. This is good info to know for sure though

| Didn't expect to see a snake at the beach last week, but Joni walked all over it before I realized what it was and snatched her up. Granted, this was near a marsh grass line that we should have been more careful around. Yes, snakes are everywhere! |

| Well I lived in the city before we built the house we live in. I will not tell you about the long black snake that showed up by our pool to eat the baby birds in the nest!

YT 2000 Club Member | When we lived in the country, when my children were young, we killed a few copper heads every week or so. We had German Shepards then and those dogs would try to kill them too. Very scarey!! Now we live in a very small community and still have snakes, but thankfully mostly grass snakes and those ugly big long black snakes (yuck). I have to really watch my little girl, Jasmine. My husband calls her, Ninja, because she attacks everything in the yard that doesn't belong. Love the summer, but dread the snakes.

I just looked up Ga snakes so I know what they look like. And thank you for sparing me the thought of the big black bird eater.

| I have had incidents in my yard already...so creepy. I was out talking with the landscapers one day in the front yard and there was a water moccasin in my front garden. Then, a bit later, Cookie found a huge black snake (about 3 feet) in the pots on my patio. I nearly had a stroke. I was screaming so loud trying to get her away from it....she chased it across the yard and cornered it by the fence...that I was thinking later someone might have thought I was being killed. Thankfully, I got her and Kiche away from it. Then, right after than, my neighbor's pool guy found a copperhead in the pool. I am so worried now when I go outside with them. Someone told me moth balls prevent, but I have read that is not true. Guess I just have to be on the alert. Creepy creepy. I took pics, but will spare all of you.

| Lost our beloved male yorkie "Mogee" couple years ago due to a rattlesnake on our back porch. Mogee had had the rattlesnake vaccine but that is no guarantee to save them. The snake struck a major vein and he did not stand a chance. The snake had just got out of hibernation and had full venom. My two yorkie have constant supervision now and I OVERSEE the area before they potty. I hate snakes.
