| Day 2 of being neutered Our little guy Theo is 6.5lbs. He was just neutered yesterday at our local SPCA. When we picked him up we were given just brief instructions and E-collar for him to wear. Theo was still coming out from the anesthesia when we picked him up. He was whimpering/crying for 6 hours straight. We tried everything to comfort him. He refused to drink water but later we got him to drink chicken broth mixed with water and he managed to hold that down as well as some food. He finally fell asleep and slept for about 6 hours. When morning came around it was a tough situation. Everyday since we adopted Theo we have brought him on a walk to the park down the street where he goes potty. He gets three of these walks a day. He refuses to go the bathroom in the backyard unless it's at night time. Pretty spoiled pooch. Anyways, this morning he was crying and howling for 2 hours bc we wouldn't take him on his walk. We kept bringing him out back but he wouldn't go. After 2 hours of this I had to carry him to the park and he went as soon as we got there. Boy does he have us trained. He already is almost back to his normal self and it's only been one day. He continues trying to run and jump and play and doesn't act in pain. We have to continuously try and calm him down and tell him no. We are worried he might open up the sutures by all this activity. The Dr did not prescribe any meds for him to calm him down or even pain meds. And has not returned our phone call to see if there is something we can do. Has anyone else experienced their dog recovering so quickly and how do you keep your dog from being excited? And is it bad to bring him to a park where lots of other dogs go potty at? I don't want him to get an infection. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and WELCOME to YT . Dogs do recover very quickly, that's for sure. Whenever mine have any kind of surgery, I absolutely would not leave w/out pain meds and a pain plan bc these babies have pain just like we do. So next time, I'd insist on it...any good vet will send you home w/ pain meds. Don't worry about infection from the park - just watch him closely like you already are and keep his activity down like you already are. You're doing GREAT ! Your little guy is just adorable, and yup, he's gotcha well trained .

Senior Yorkie Talker | Well my guy bah am got neutered Friday so I feel your concern. I got pain meds and antibiotics for my little guy at an extra charge. Saturday (yesterday) he was surprisingly acting like his normal self! I have been crating him and taken him out only to go potty. You are doing a great job. He is sooo cute too! |
