| Slipping on Hard Wood Floors One of my Yorkies is having a hard time walking on my hard wood floors. Her nails haven't been trimmed in about a month, but aside from that, she has trouble with the floors even when her nails are short. Sometimes she walks just fine, and other times she scurries and gets scared. Sometimes she won't leave the kitchen (which has textured tile, which she walks fine on) because she doesn't want to walk on the wood. I have to go get her. If the doorbell rings, she runs towards the door, then tries to hit the breaks and slips and slides around. sometimes she falls over... Aside from carpeting my floors, is there any other solution for this? I don't want her to get hurt, and I also don't want her to be scared of the floors. Thanks! |

| The socks sound neat. And your dog will wear them? Neat suggestion. |

| How old is the yorkie having trouble? Are are rugs/runners an option for your house? That way she would have a safe path everywhere she went. I read another post that mentioned there were some studies done about puppy hip and leg development not going so well on wood floors, I have slick wood floors too.

| Aww...bless her heart! I think your girl would feel more secure if she had a set of shoes or slippers. One of our very own members, (AllDogBoots) Karen has a wonder selection of dog shoes and she's very willing to help you with any questions or concerns you may have. My Yazmin has several sets of shoes, boots and sandals from AllDogBoots and I love Karen's excellent customer service and her passion towards helping animals. Dog Boots, Shoes & Booties - Alldogboots.com I also love this video of Rusty walking on hardwood floors while wearing his Meshies. |

| Thanks for all of the great suggestions! My dogs are 10 years old. I checked between their paws and it looks like the groomer forgot to trim there! So, that's probably part of the problem. I like the socks, but I don't think my dogs will wear them. I can try. Right now I have scattered some bath mats all around the floors and they scurry from one mat to another to navigate around the room. It is not an ideal situation. I'll get that paw hair trimmed and their nails clipped and go from there....thanks again, all!! |

| I have put a lot of throw rugs on my tile and wood floors since Buster had his knee surgeries last year. Many of them have stayed down to keep him from slipping and sliding. My daughter tells me my house looks like an old folks home, but it does help with his sliding.

| I tried the dog socks for my 14 year old Yorkie. He has arthritis and has a hard time on my floor. I couldn't get the socks to stay on him for anything although I haven't tried the ones from alldogboots. I got mine from amazon. I ended up just buying large area rugs and that has helped the most. I try to keep small throw rugs in between areas but with 2 crazy standard poodles running through the house that doesn't always work so well. Something else you can try is wrapping their feet with vet wrap. It stays on better than the socks and will give them some traction. |
