| Gunner got a horrible scare today! I had just let Gunner out, then went to the bathroom. As soon as I sat down a huge gust of wind and clap of lightning hit. I could see all sorts of things flying outside as I hurried to let him in. I think he was picked up and pushed by the wind too. He was so frightened he wouldn't come out of his crate for hours. He is finally back to normal but I doubt he will go out again for anything!

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Poor little guy. I am so glad he is ok. I never let Galen out by himself. He could get hurt, taken or even killed. . . It only takes a min.

| Glad he's okay. Teri is correct... My 2nd Yorkie disappeared when I let him out and ran back in the house to go potty... that was 24 years ago. Never saw him again.

| I have a fenced in covered yard. Only thing it didn't protect him from is the wind.

| Awe...Poor little Gunner! Hopefully, with a little extra TLC from Mommy, he'll recover and forget how frightened he was at the time. I have to agree with Terri, letting these little guys outside alone may have a devastating ending that you'll never want to go through. It's not worth the risk. Kjc, I'm so sorry you lost your precious baby, I can only imagine your pain. |

| Tibbe had that happen to him very soon after I got him. He'd spent his first 9 mos. of life in a cage alone so he was scared of everything life with him was very hard. I usually went outside with him but it was pouring rain and I was standing inside the utility porch watching him as he peed in the storm. Suddenly the lightening hit somewhere too close as you could see the blinding flash, feel pressure and then the huge, crackling boom! right over the whole back yard. I think I screamed and poor, shaky little Tibbe just jumped forward about a yard and froze in place. He was already drenched but it looked like he was drowning, too. No calling him to me would move him and I feared he'd be struck by lightening or die of a heart attack from panic so I ran out in my gown w/out a robe into the downpour and lightening and he began backing away from me as I came toward him but I got him and brought him inside. He was shaking so hard, drooling, ears back, panting, eyes wide as saucers, little heart just pounding. I dried him off and brought him inside and began to try to play with him, toss balls, toys across the room. He was having none of it. He was frozen in fear. Finally I got his toy drawer open and began showing him toys one at a time and tossing them a bit across the floor. He could still hear the rain and thunder and was still scared silly but slowly he engaged a little but then he'd jump up on the couch and shake, eyes wide. Treats were left on the floor - too nervous to eat. Finally, I began asking him to Sit, Go in Circles and lie down and do his couple of tricks that he knew at that time and he began to engage and do his tricks over and over. I think that' the day I began showing him how to shake paws and he got right into it. That's what finally brought him out of his total panic - time and working on his tricks. He's such a show-off, being a little ham won out.

| Talking about bad things happening to unattended babies. Cody all of a sudden needs poop privacy. I let him out, now have to stand 10 feet away from him, give him his privacy, the other day I see him sniffing something, I walk over to him just as whatever he was smelling he snapped it up, I tell him to drop it, what he snapped up was a BIG yellow jacket bee. Thankfully he was not stung. Cody is newly adopted, came from the city, now he lives in the country, runs free in back yard, his hunting instinct are kicking in, yesterday, I only give him 5 feet of privacy since the bee incident, now he found a hole and is sniffing into it, I walk over, bend down to see what he is sniffing, something came out of that hole so fast, popped him in his nose, he jumped back several feet, I checked him out, no stings, no bite, what ever it was, was so fast I couldn't see what it was. Now he'll get NO privacy, I will be right on top of him. All my babies never were let out alone, it's not just ppl, stray dogs, wild animals you have to be concerned about, I told of Cody so ppl will be aware, insects are harmful / deadly also. Watch your babies carefully.

| exactly what I was aiming at. There are foreseen predators, some to small to see standing in a doorway 30 + feet from pup, or out of sight for a couple of minutes. Wasp / hornets also in the ground, this I saw last year while walking with my girl that that lost most of her vision. Always stay close to your baby even if they are in enclosed yards.
